The Assistant Director, Multimedia Design Serves is an integral member of the Integrated Marketing and Communications (IMC) team. The position supports the development and delivery of marketing and communications promotional materials related to institutional identity, in-house client support, and brand development. Creates original layouts and designs for a variety of traditional print media and multimedia platforms to enhance the institution's visual image. Supervises other design specialists. The position assists the Director of Creative Services with strategic planning and the formation and execution of strategic goals

Designs and prepares high-quality original layouts and designs for a variety of media platforms including ads, logos, posters, brochures, postcards, e-cards, university publications, and social media/web graphics. Works to incorporate Florida State's visual identity and branding images to maintain a unified and consistent look across publications and other media outputs. Interacts with University Communications/University Relations staff and clients to determine project requirements and priorities to ensure timely production of high-quality promotional materials. Coordinate with the office business manager and procurement resources to prepare digital files and invoices appropriately for vendors to meet production deadlines within project budget. Coordinates the tracking of all current design projects within Creative Services. Completes the necessary project tracking forms and maintains a complete and accurate list of current projects in the department's project tracking system. Conducts intake sessions with potential clients. Completes the necessary project intake forms/creative briefs and follows up with clients regarding the job specifics and production timeline.

Works collaboratively with the Creative Director and project team to ensure that high-quality marketing materials are produced in a timely manner for campus clients. Reviews proofs and offers constructive critiques of other designers' and design students' work when called upon to help create an atmosphere of creative brainstorming to meet the university's need for a positive, dynamic visual image. Assists team members by mentoring them on design principles and technical issues. Ensures that design and technical skills are kept current through on-the-job training, review of professional publications and training.

Perform administrative functions to support multimedia design work. Maintain project files and project tracking in an efficient and timely manner. Assist in the maintenance of supplies inventory. Assists clients with the print production process including obtaining estimates (quotes), packaging files for press, reviewing proofs, ensuring the delivery of quality print products, and archiving files. Supervises and mentors a growing team of graphic designers including A&P employees as well as OPS employees and student workers to ensure consistent quality throughout all projects. Assists the Director of Creative Services with strategic planning and the formation and execution of strategic goals.

Qualifications Bachelor's degree and two year of experience. (Note: post high-school education and/or experience may substitute at a comparable rate equal to six years.)

    Excellent organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple daily deadlines.Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within University Communications, the university, and the wider Tallahassee community.Knowledge of the standards, principles, trends, and practices of multimedia design production.Ability to gather, interpret, and/or edit information as well as the ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop changes or alternativesExperience regarding standards and best practices of working with current multimedia design technology and producing digital content for multi-platform including graphic design for print and the web
Preferred Expertise with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign on Apple computers

Experience trafficking multiple projects through the design and printing process

Experience working with multiple clients simultaneously

Knowledge of current design trends and a willingness to update technical skills as needed

Highly organized and customer service oriented


The assistant director of multimedia design services is a vital member of University Communications and the ideal candidate for the position will be able to work well within a team dedicated to advancing the university’s mission and its strategic goals.
