Nature of Work: The Principal Community Outreach and Engagement Coordinator will provide oversight and lead a number of the Cancer Center's community outreach and engagement (COE) efforts, including community and research projects consistent with the COE's aims. The coordinator responsibilities will be related to COE's initiatives and research projects focused on a variety of cancer prevention, control, and survivorship topics, with emphasis on the engagement of underrepresented populations in Colorado.

This position will oversee community and research projects' staff as well as of graduate and undergraduate student assistants assigned to funded projects.

Examples of COE administration responsibilities:
  • Lead planning and execution of outreach, engagement, and research activities.
  • Prepare abstracts and present at local, regional, and national conferences.
  • Facilitate preparation of written and oral reports for the COE.
  • Prepare and conduct presentations related to the COE's activities and projects.
  • Maintain tracking database for all community engagement contacts and activities.
  • Foster statewide collaboration with Coalitions, Collaboratives, Task Forces, etc.
  • Administrative support for the COE – website, committees, etc.
  • Seek funding opportunity notices (e.g., Request for Proposals) for COE efforts.
  • Assist in writing, reviewing, and editing of COE competitive funded grants.
  • Other duties as assigned

Examples of COE outreach and engagement responsibilities:
  • Develop and foster collaborations with community-based organizations, local and state government agencies, healthcare organizations, and other organizations.
  • Coordinate, set-up, and participate in events, programs, and initiatives to engage Colorado communities in cancer prevention and early detection efforts.
  • Provide cancer prevention and early detection education at community events (e.g., health fairs) and community organizations (e.g., schools, churches, clinics).
  • Assist investigators and project leaders with developing outreach plans and fostering diversity and inclusivity within protocols and engagement activities.
  • Assist investigators and providers leading clinical trials to align with catchment priorities and facilitate creating a proper recruitment and retention plans.
  • Assist investigators to develop systems to identify and accrue underrepresented communities to participate in research.
  • Develop education programs for patients about research, including clinical trials.
  • Other duties as assigned

Example of Work Performed for Funded Projects
  • Manage overall operational of funded service and/or research projects.
  • Supervise project staff, research assistants, and volunteers.
  • Manage protocol requirements from PRMS, COMIRB, OnCore, and others.
  • Work with institutional shared resources for statistical and database creation.
  • Oversee creation and development of educational and evaluation materials
  • Ensure data collection is applied and documented accurately by project staff
  • Conduct project evaluations (e.g., surveys, measures, qualitative interviews).
  • Lead the write-up and/or presentation of required project reports.
  • Work with project team to ensure timely project progression and completion.
  • Oversee compliance with the university and funding agencies requirements.
  • Identify eligible patients, including electronic records, tumor boards, clinic rosters.
  • Recruit and consent eligible participants to research projects.
  • Assist with annual and final project reports and related project closure tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

Education: BS or BA in Biology, Chemistry, Behavioral Science, Nursing, Social Science, or other health-related discipline.

Experience: Four (4) of clinical or community-engagement research experience.

Substitution: A Master's level degree in the fields listed under preferred qualifications may substitute for two of the four years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications
    Bilingual (English and Spanish) with proven written and oral proficiency. MS or MPH in epidemiology, public health, health evaluation, biostatistics, or social sciences (or related field) Experience managing multi-site community and/or research projects Experience managing randomized controlled trials (RCT) Experience administering interventions to children and youth Experience engaging underrepresented minority populations (e.g. Black, Hispanic, Asian, American Indian)

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position has been established at $61,832-$78,651

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
