Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Intercollegiate Athletics department of Millersville University of Pennsylvania occasionally hires temporary part-time Athletic Trainers to work with athletic staff, permanent trainers and coaches on the following preventative responsibilities:

* Inspection of field, courts and other competition areas utilized by the University Intercollegiate Athletics Program.

* Assist in the coordination and administration of physical examinations for all intercollegiate athletic team members.

* Taping, wrapping and other preventative measures qualified to perform.

* Assist in the coordination of the provision of medical and physician coverage for all intercollegiate athletic practices, home and away contests in compliance with university and applicable athletic conference and athletic association policies.

The temporary, part-time Athletic Trainers would work with the Athletic Trainers, physicians, the Athletic Directors and coaches on the following evaluation responsibilities:

* Conduct evaluations and treatments of athletically related injuries consistent with M.U Standing Orders. Inform Head Trainer/Team Physician of major injuries.

* Conduct referral services for athletic injuries.

Other work would include rehabilitative work with physicians including:

* Develop rehabilitation programs for athletes recovering from injuries.

* Utilize those modalities consistent with team physician’s approval.

Other work with the two full-time permanent Athletic Trainers would include:

* Keep accurate records of athletic injuries, evaluations, and treatments.

* Be present for assigned practices and intercollegiate events.

* Assist in the administration of inventory, maintenance of equipment, supervision of graduate assistants and athletic training students.

* Serve as a field experience supervisor/clinical instructor within the Athletic Training Education Program as directed by the Athletic Training Education Program Coordinator. Such instruction will not be in academic credit bearing classes, however, unless approved in advance by the Chair of the Department of Wellness and Sports Sciences and the Vice President for Student Affairs.

* Perform other duties not specifically stated herein but deemed essential to the operation of the athletic training program as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer, and/or athletic directors.

* Actual assignments will depend on department need.

* There is an expectation for scholarship and service commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor’s degree and 15 graduate credits

* BOC Certification

* PA certification in Athletic Training or eligible

* Ability to function professionally in highly-stressful situations

* Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills

* Ability to work evening/weekend hours and travel as needed

* Ability to handle multiple tasks/duties concurrently

* Evidence of a commitment to equity and diversity

* Successful interview and three background checks: Act 34; Act 151 (Child Abuse History Clearance); and Act 114 (FBI Federal Criminal History-Fingerprinting).

Preferred Qualifications:

* Masters Degree in athletic training or related field

* One year experience as a full time athletic trainer

* Competence in the use of computers, and various sports medicine technologies

* Experience with Electronic Medical Records

* Additional appropriate certification (e.g. CSCS, NASM-PES, NASM-CES, EMT, etc.)

Essential Functions:

The individual must be able to evaluate and treat injuries and illnesses of an athletic population. The ability to communicate clearly, perform manual orthopedic tests, apply various tapings and wraps.

Computer and writing skills in order to document injuries and progress notes.

Ability to assist injured athletes off the field or court in the event of an injury.

The ability to perform CPR in the event of a life threatening situation.

Stooping; standing; walking; lifting; feeling; talking; hearing; repetitive motions.

Close visual acuity.

Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; exposed to infectious diseases.
