A.T. Still University's Arizona School of Health Sciences (ATSU-ASHS) invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Athletic Training on the Mesa, Arizona campus. A.T. Still University (ATSU) is a culturally rich environment leading the way in whole-person health education with cutting edge technology and instruction. The Assistant/Associate Professor of Athletic Training will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Athletic Training and will be responsible to teach courses, engage in service, and conduct scholarship.

The assistant/associate professor of athletic training position is a tenure track 12-month full time position located on ATSU’s Mesa campus beginning in July 2023. This faculty line will assist with the development of a hy-flex professional Masters of Athletic Training (MAT) program, including the creation of a robust immersive clinical education curriculum. Upon approval of the professional program, this faculty line will roll into the Coordinator of Clinical Education position for the professional MAT and will be responsible for recruitment of clinical preceptors, preceptor development, implementation of the clinical education curriculum and teaching and advising students within the MAT. The faculty member will also be responsible for teaching courses in the post-professional online MSAT, DAT, and graduate certificate programs, conducting scholarship, and providing university and professional service. Successful candidates will embrace the opportunity for disruptive innovation in athletic training education, and the development of a novel hy-flex MAT program that advances the athletic training profession and produces high quality clinicians prepared for contemporary practice in athletic training.


The responsibilities of the Assistant/Associate Professor of Athletic Training will include, but will not necessarily be limited to, the following:

  • Develop and deliver academic courses as assigned.
  • Conduct scholarship in area(s) of athletic training / sports medicine.
  • Serve on departmental, school, and university committees as assigned.
  • Engage in community and professional service.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, skills, and accomplishments:

Required Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in athletic training or related field (eg. PhD, DAT)
  • National BOC board certification as an AT, NPI number, and AZ state licensure eligible as an athletic trainer are required.
  • Contemporary expertise in the field of athletic training
  • Substantial previous clinical experience as an athletic trainer

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with delivery of educational content through online and hybrid formats
  • Knowledge of post-professional athletic training education and familiarity with the 2020 CAATE standards and accreditation process
  • Knowledge of instructional design and methodology specific to graduate education and adult education
  • Experience in the design, development, implementation and leadership of a clinical education program.
  • Recruitment and development of high-quality preceptors across the country.
  • Demonstrated contemporary expertise in orthopaedics or rehabilitation
  • Mentorship of graduate student research
  • Skilled and effective communicator.
  • Skilled in working with a variety of different student learning styles and collaborating with other faculty.
  • Ability to perform duties autonomously with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality
