Position OverviewThe KU School of Business is seeking a Program Coordinator to join the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) team. As a team, the DEIB Program Coordinators address the full student cycle for underrepresented students including recruitment outreach, program support, advocacy, mentorship, professional development and successful career transition. Underrepresented populations may include persons with disabilities, individuals from marginalized and minoritized racial and ethnic backgrounds, those who would be considered first-generation college students, Pell-eligible students, and others who fall within demographics that may be less represented in current programs.

Along with contributing to successful DEIB area outcomes, the current vacancy will focus on the professional maturity and transition stages through a variety of individual and group engagement activities including e-Platform. In coordination with the School of Business advising, professionalism program and career services staff, the incumbent will tailor placement efforts for current students; and build, maintain, and engage the School’s network of alumni in support of the School and DEIB efforts.

This is a full-time, 12-month, staff position reporting to the Assistant Dean of DEIB. The position is currently designated as an on-campus position. Office will be located in beautiful Capitol Federal Hall, a 166,500 square foot modern facility that the School of Business has called home since 2016. Alternative and flexible work schedules may be evaluated as per KU policy and School guidelines, as training is completed.

Job Description50% DEIB Program Development, Coordination and Management: Develop programming and educational opportunities for all school of business students to engage. Support purposeful engagement opportunities for diverse students to develop relevant skills and further their intentional participation in high-impact practices. Duties include but not limited to:
  • Manage the faculty and alumni mentoring network efforts for diverse students through the diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging office in the KU School of Business.
  • Enhance relationships with faculty (tenure and non-tenure) and support mentoring that would ultimately assist in professional engagement upon graduation.
  • Host school-wide conference highlighting emergent and relevant topics related to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Develop and deliver leadership trainings to student groups that request representatives from the diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging office in the KU School of Business.
  • Provide specialized career and/or graduate preparation programming to support students.
25% Professional and Success Coaching: Support individual professional development and preparation efforts for underrepresented students through e-Platform and in coordination with School of Business Career Services (BCS). Duties include but not limited to:
  • Collaborate with the business career advising team to provide specialized career and professional preparation on appropriate career management, graduate programs, and internship/job search skills.
  • Advise students on appropriate domestic and international career management, graduate programs and job search skills.
  • Develop knowledge and familiarity with a broad range of business career functions and industries.
  • Collaborate with business career advising team on career curriculum that aligns with DEIB strategic goals. May instruct BUS 210, if required.
  • Manage presentations and workshops associated with the preparation of students for the job market including resume writing, interviewing skills, networking, industry research, etc.
  • Facilitate networking and career events involving participation from industry for various Business School majors, programs, and student organizations.
15% Outreach and Constituent Relations: Build, maintain, and engage the School’s network of professionals and alumni from underrepresented populations in support of the School and DEIB efforts. Duties include but not limited to:
  • Engage alumni as speakers, class hosts, and project/internship liaisons for DEIB initiatives.
  • Engage alumni from underrepresented populations in area academic and social activities, with some attention to cultivation for advisory board service.
  • Work with executive education effort and the Alumni Association to help to determine and fulfill the needs for specialized professional education, networking, and other opportunities for Business School graduates in underrepresented populations.
  • Serve as a liaison to the local, regional, and national workforce community.
10% Administration Support: Assist with administrative duties related to the role and in support of DEIB efforts within the School of Business and campus wide. Duties include but not limited to:
  • Support the Assistant Dean of DEIB in developing and collecting metrics related to the outcomes of these efforts (students served, satisfaction, mentor relationships, corporate/firm relationships, recruiting efforts, graduation rates, etc.).
  • Aid the Assistant Dean of DEIB and school administration in the collection and analysis of success metrics for graduates from underrepresented populations (e.g., placement, salary, rank, position satisfaction, etc.)
  • Serve as a liaison to other DEIB graduate initiatives on campus and with the Alumni Association, executive education programs, etc.
  • May recruit, supervise and train student assistants.
  • Attend business school staff and faculty assembly.
  • Participate in school and university wide committees and groups as requested.
  • Complete other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree plus three years relevant experience, OR Master’s degree.Excellent communication skills as evidenced by application materials.Demonstrated record of managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
    Master's degree in business, education, psychology, counseling, communications, or closely related field.Experience working with underrepresented populations, as defined in overview.Experience in career or academic advising, higher education, or other relevant areas.Experience with administering diversity initiatives at the post-secondary level.Experience in community engagement and/or professional networking.
