Job Description Summary

The Vining Lab is seeking a highly motivated Research Research Specialist who is interested in joining a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers investigating mechanical regulation of inflammation in cancer and regeneration. This position will involve biomaterials synthesis and characterization, animal models of oral and bone marrow cancer, and biological assays, including cell culture, immunofluorescence imaging, flow cytometry, and next-generation sequencing. A strong candidate will have demonstrated a committed interest in science and engineering.

A strong candidate will have demonstrated a committed interest in science and engineering.

Qualifications:

• The candidate must have a Bachelor of Sciences or Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts, Basic Science, or Engineering. Candidates from non-traditional backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
• The candidate must demonstrate initiative and the capability to conduct research.
• 1-2 years of prior research experience are preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication in English and organization skills are required.

Duties include:

• Perform experimental models relating to animal models of oral cancer and hematopoietic malignances
• Perform cell culture with cells and isolated primary cells
• Perform molecular and cellular biology assays, including DNA, RNA, and protein isolation, Western blotting, real-time quantitative PCR, immunofluorescence imaging, and flow cytometry
• Compile, analyze and evaluate data
• Draft scientific abstracts and manuscripts for conferences and peer-reviewed scientific journals
• Present at regularly lab and department seminars
• Perform additional duties as assigned
