The Department of History, Anthropology, and Modern Languages & Literatures at Eastern Washington University is currently inviting applications to fill a 50% part-time, Program Coordinator. This is a 12-month project position and will be re-evaluated at the end of the 12-month appointment. Renewal of position will be based on department need and funding availability.

In this capacity, the position will provide support to the History and Social Studies Directors and the Graduate Advisor; respond to student inquiries; coordinate special projects; assist with marketing, recruiting, and website management. Position will exercise independent judgment and discretion relating to students in regard to EWU and departmental/program policies, guidelines, and contracts, and in implementing, interpreting, and applying program procedures and policies. Position will independently advise students, staff, and the public regarding the programs and the University, when engaging in recruiting activities, and by acting as liaison to local organizations, including the College of Art, Humanities & Social Sciences (CAHSS) and EWU College in the High School (CiHS).

In the course of performing the job duties, this position will have extensive involvement with students, staff, and the public in carrying out program activities, and will coordinate, schedule, and monitor program activities to determine consistency with goals. Position reports directly to the Director of the History Program.

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience with website and social media development and maintenance.
  • One year full-time work experience maintaining both manual and electronic records and files.
  • Demonstrated interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.



The requirements defined belowEACH require two years full-time work experience involving the functions/abilities described. This experience can come from one or more positions, as long as you offer at least two years full-time qualifying work experience in EACH of the requirements defined below:
  • Two years full-time work experience demonstrating strong computer skills using MS-Suite programs
  • Two years full-time work experience demonstrating success in EACH of the following:
    • Ability to handle a high volume of customer contact and provide customer service – “high volume” means receipt of an average of 50-100 customer contacts on a daily basis to include email, telephone calls, and teleconference (Zoom) communications;
    • Ability to work with others with a professional demeanor, excellent interpersonal and communication skills – communications must include both verbal/telephonic, email, and written correspondence;
    • Ability to successfully handle a demanding workload with overlapping deadlines and which requires great attention to detail, strong communication skills, perseverance, and initiative;
    • Ability to function equally well taking direction and working independently in an environment characterized by interruptions throughout the work day.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree
  • Two or more years work experience in a higher education environment involving student support services
  • Minimum of one year experience using Canvas, EagleNet, Banner, and other university administrative systems, or equivalent
  • Competency with higher education institution processes and software
  • Bilingual Spanish/English

Job Duties:

Responsibility / Duty: Graduate Student Communication
  • Organize regular Zoom orientations for online Master of Arts students and affiliated faculty
  • Respond to email and phone inquiries from current and prospective graduate students
  • Maintain availability to graduate students via Zoom during office hours

Responsibility / Duty: Program Outreach and Coordination Activities – 25%
  • Collaborate with CAHSS Undergrad/Grad Services Administrator to maintain relevant websites and marketing materials
  • Review, update and create materials for web pages
  • Design and distribute posters, flyers, and other print and electronic materials
  • Assist with event coordination
  • Manage social media and canvas pages
  • Facilitate dissemination of program information
  • Plan and implement student orientations, informational talks, and workshops

Responsibility / Duty: Coordinate Special Projects & Events
  • Assist in coordination of special projects and events, including work of major importance to the program
  • Develop and prepare informational materials designed to inform and recruit student participants; conduct presentations at student recruitment and orientation meetings
  • Attend team meetings; travel periodically to attend meetings and recruiting events

Responsibility / Duty: Program Related Public & Organizational Contact
  • Serve as primary contact with students, faculty, faculty field instructors, and external agencies regarding program policies and procedures
  • Independently advise students, staff and the public regarding the program and the University
  • Initiate, maintain, and distribute student contact information
  • Act as liaison to faculty, staff, and colleagues at other agencies/institutions, representatives of funding agencies and officials from professional organizations, businesses, industry and government, interpreting policies and making decisions which facilitate progress of project(s)
  • Represent the programs at public, program, and College functions
  • Coordinate and advance program information with EWU programs and College staff – Undergraduate/Graduate Service Administrator.

Responsibility / Duty: Technical & Administrative Support
  • Assist students with EagleNet, Canvas, and web-based and online technologies
  • Provide administrative support to Director(s)
  • Design office procedures, policies and forms including interpretation and application of administrative policies to the work of the program
  • Coordinate administrative standards and procedures for independent yet interrelated departmental functions such as research, curriculum, and instruction
  • Use EagleNet, Banner, Canvas, and other software to assist staff and student
  • Other administrative duties as assigned

Conditions of Employment:
This is a 12-month 50% part-time project position and will be re-evaluated at the end of the 12-month appointment. Renewal of position will be based on department need and funding availability.

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

All new employees must comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR and proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.This position is covered by the Washington Federation of State Employees’ Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Salary Information: The salary range for this 50% position is $18,960 (minimum) up to $23,784. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience and skills.
