Job Description:

The McKune Lab is a highly interdisciplinary research laboratory in the Department of Environmental and Global Health and the Center for African Studies at the University of Florida. The McKune Lab is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Associate in global health, human nutrition, public health, or epidemiology/biostatistics to contribute significantly to a new interdisciplinary research project examining the nutritional impact of animal source foods on infants and young children (estimated project start date: Fall 2022). The new project will be conducted in sub-Saharan Africa (likely Rwanda or Niger) and will assess the child nutritional impact of interventions that target improved diets of pregnant and lactating women. The postdoctoral associate, under the supervision of Dr. Sarah McKune, will contribute to formative research, study design, communication with implementing partners, and data analysis, which will include both quantitative and qualitative. This individual will work in collaboration with the PI and project manager to manage all project data, and s/he will lead data analysis on child growth and health outcomes. The position is expected to have a duration of three years.

Expected Salary:

$54,840 annually, commensurate with experience level and in accordance with current NIH postdoctoral salary guidelines.

Minimum Requirements:

A PhD degree in global health, nutrition, social science, One Health, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Fluency in English
• Fluency in French
• Previous experience working or conducting research in low-and-middle income countries
• Quantitative analysis skills including database management, data visualization, and regression modeling (e.g., generalized linear models)
• Ability to travel to sub-Saharan Africa, sometimes for extended periods (4-5 weeks)
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• High degree of adaptability
• Ability to work in fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment
• Availability to begin work in Fall 2022
• Intention to work for three years
• Familiarity of R or SPSS for data analysis
• Experience designing, implementing or analyzing data from randomized control trials
• Experience on gender and/or livestock related projects
• Experience with qualitative data collection methods and analysis
• Previous experience working in Rwanda and/or Niger
• Experience with One Health related projects
