The Department of Biology offers a collegial atmosphere, a thriving study abroad and competitive pre-med program, and also teaching and lab space equipped for hands-on experiential learning. The Biology Department is comprised of 11 full-time tenure-track faculty members and 2 full-time lecturers. Highlights of our facilities include a modern and recently renovated science building containing cellular/molecular biology and chemistry labs, recently renovated anatomy & physiology, microbiology and general biology labs, a scanning electron microscope, HPLC and tissue culture facility. Job Summary
The Department of Biology at Columbus State University (CSU) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biology to begin August 2022.

We seek candidates who are enthusiastic about undergraduate teaching and implementing a student-centered research program that mentors undergraduates and Master's students. Excellent candidates will create synergy in the department via the application of modern molecular methods.

Teaching responsibilities will include both lecture and lab of lower and upper division undergraduate courses in cell/molecular biology and Anatomy and Physiology for both majors and non-majors, as well as the opportunity to develop new courses in the candidate's area of specialty.

Responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities include but are not limited to the preparation of lectures for classroom and laboratory courses; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; conferring with students on course materials; reviewing written examinations and papers; evaluating presentations; supervising independent study projects and advising; and teaching an average of 12 contact hours per semester, which may include lectures and labs in Introductory Biology courses for both majors and non-majors, Cell Biology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and Molecular Biology, as well as additional courses as needed based on demand and qualifications.

Required Qualifications
Candidates must have an earned doctorate or Ph.D. in a relevant field (cell biology, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, neuroscience, human physiology, or related field), prior to the start date of August 2022. Candidates should show evidence of a strong commitment to teaching undergraduate students, have the ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships throughout the organization, communicate effectively and possess proficient computer skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Suite of Office Applications. The successful applicant must be willing to work a flexible schedule at multiple sites, as well as demonstrate the ability to work well with students, faculty and staff at all levels within a diverse, multicultural, collaborative environment. The candidate will also demonstrate research excellence and a commitment to high-quality teaching and mentoring with a demonstrated record of being supportive and inclusive of people from diverse backgrounds.

Applicants must have the ability to meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements, in particular a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
