The individual hired into this position will be required to provide in-person services, though we offer flexible work arrangements including hybrid/remote work opportunities.

NATURE OF WORK

The Special Collections Librarian is primarily responsible for the management of the Strauss-Wisneski Indigenous & Integrative Health (S-W) Collection. The S-W collection is an endowed collection within the Strauss Health Sciences Library. It is focused on complementary health practices from around the world. This position is responsible for acquiring relevant items for the collection in all formats, processing materials, and facilitating access to the collection. This position is a member of the Strauss-Wisneski Committee and provides support for committee meetings, the Strauss Lecture series, and any related conferences. In addition, this position is responsible for outreach to programs on campus that have an interest in this unique collection. This position will also provide support for all of the library's endowed and special collections, and assist with other Collection Management duties as needed.

FACULTY STATUS

Strauss Health Sciences Library faculty members serve as non-tenure track faculty. The Special Collections Librarian is appointed at Senior Instructor or Assistant Professor level, commensurate with professional and relevant experience.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Special Collections Librarian is expected to assume personal responsibility for designing and implementing a plan for continuing professional development and to actively contribute to the development of health sciences librarianship through scholarly and service activities.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is primarily responsible for managing an endowed collection focused on complementary health practices from around the world.

Specific responsibilities include the following:
    Manage the collections budget (approximately $40,000 annually) for the S-W Collection. Employ and experiment with a variety of acquisition methods and models with the goal to create an inclusive and diverse collection. Develop assessment strategies for the S-W Collection. Manage deaccessioning and relocation decisions. Develop a network, nationally and internationally, to aid in collection development. Maintain the S-W collection development policy. Manage the Strauss-Wisneski Committee, including collaborating with the Committee Chair to set meeting dates, create agendas, share minutes, and coordinate logistics for lectures. Liaison with Schools, College, Programs, Centers and clinical groups, primarily on topics of integrative health but also on general library topics. Provide consultations and instruction to individuals and groups. Assist with processing materials including providing MARC access, as needed. Create exhibits and displays highlighting the S-W Collection. Regularly update content on the library's webpage related to the S-W Collection. Actively promote and market the S-W Collection on campus, in the metro area and nationally. Partner with the Library Director and the Office of Advancement on donor relations for the S-W Collection. Responsible for Gifts in Kind (GIK) to the S-W Collection. Provide support for all of the library's endowed and special collections, as needed and when indicated by the Head of Collection Management. Cultivate partnerships and collaborate with library and university personnel on projects, including research programs, grants, papers, poster presentations, or other creative undertaking. Contribute to campus and library's advancement of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility. Participate in library-wide activities, such as serving on library committees and task forces. Participate in cross-campus activities, such as serving on committees and task forces. Represent the library on university, state, and regional committees and consortia. Participate in professional development activities. Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work creatively, collaboratively and effectively in groups as both a team leader and a team member.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position has been established at:

Senior Instructor - $70,000-$77,000 (2-5 years' experience)

Assistant Professor - $77,000-$83,000 (5+ years' experience)

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Senior Instructor
    Master's degree from an ALA accredited library school or international equivalent. Minimum 2 years' experience in a library or other related experience.

Assistant Professor
    Master's degree from an ALA accredited library school or international equivalent. Minimum 5 years' experience in a library or other related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
    Subject expertise in indigenous and/or integrative health. Experience working with a special and/or endowed collection. Experience with collection development activities such as policy development, budgeting, selection, acquisition, and evaluation. Experience organizing conferences and/or lecture series. Experience creating exhibits or displays. Experience marketing library resources and services through a variety of channels. Experience with the activities, duties and responsibilities in a library liaison program. Experience working with an integrated library system such as ExLibris Alma and Primo. Experience working with donors, Development and/or Advancement Offices. Knowledge of biomedical print materials and online information resources and databases. Knowledge of international library vendors. Undergraduate or advanced degree in the health or basic sciences. Membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals. Knowledge of languages of the countries or regions covered by the S-W Collection.
