The Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture (CESLAC) of the Division of General Internal Medicine & Health Services Research, Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA invites applications for an Academic Administrator to provide operations, data coordination, and support to doctoral students, post-doctoral students, fellows, junior faculty, and mid-career clinical faculty who want to engage in research via the CESLAC Fellowship. The Academic Administrator will link Underrepresented Minority (URM) faculty and students to the pre-existing structured UCLA research seminar, “Theory, Method, and Data for Latino Health Research” taught by Dr. David Hayes-Bautista by integrating the latest research theory, method, and data from the CESLAC research seminar into publications presentations, seminars, and classes. The Academic Administrator will provide guidance in the analysis of large data sets to feed the data back into the development of new theoretical models; mentor junior scholars through the process of the write-up, submission, and peer review. A Ph.D. is required.

This position requires the knowledge of programs such as SAS and at least two years of experience extracting and analyzing data from large public data sets, such as the American Community Survey. Experience with conducting population-based surveys is desirable, with exposure to issues of sampling, questionnaire design, and statistical analysis. A background on Latino research data is preferred.

Responsibilities will include assisting the Director in developing, planning, and implementing a long-term research plan for the Center: Engage in creative academic projects through making plans, delegating tasks, and monitoring progress; collect, compile, organize and synthesize up-to-date data, references, and resource materials. Academic Administrator will be responsible for creating academic projects such as writing original papers and articles for peer review publication; drafting grant proposals and compiling documents for submission to granting agencies. Academic Administrator will participate in CESLAC Director-designated educational projects by designing curricula, compiling syllabus, and preparing reading and presentations.
