Overview:

Quinnipiac University's seeks applications for a Senior Director of Development for Health Affairs to have responsibilities that will include organizing and executing a major gift program in an effort to maximize potential gift income from individuals and organizations for the Netter School of Medicine, the School of Nursing and School of Health Sciences.

As a member of the University's development team, the Senior Director of Development for Health Affairs will identify, cultivate, and solicit alumni, parents and friends who are capable of making $10,000 and above gifts to the University. You will also create and present proposals for consideration according to the donor's interest and financial situation.

  • Make 150 (minimum) face-to-face visits per academic year. Devise and recommend cultivation and solicitation strategies to increase gift income for approved initiatives. Recognize disinterested donors and formulate strategies to redirect their interests
  • Develop, write, and present proposals appropriate to donor's interest and financial situation. Initiate and maintain contact with prospective donors
  • A strong ability to manage a portfolio of qualified prospects through the donor cycle (discovery, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship) is required. The vast majority of the visits will be in the discovery phase with the expectation of moving them to cultivation/solicitation using our school-based structure.
  • An ability to evaluate various gift opportunities and giving vehicles and recommend the most suitable for a particular donor. Portfolio composition will be approximately 33% from the School of Health Sciences, 33% School of Nursing and 33% from the Netter School of Medicine
  • Maintain appropriate documentation for assigned prospects on the prospect tracking and management system, including contact reports and cultivation/solicitation plans. Participate in monthly prospect strategy meetings
  • Work closely with the School Dean’s and the AVP of Development and Alumni Affairs to ensure we are ambitiously maximizing our moves with key prospects.
  • Work collegially with the various Directors of Development and Director of Annual Giving and the Senior Director of Alumni Affairs to ensure we are developing quality strategies to maximize participation from our constituencies
  • Maintain a working knowledge of planned giving to maximize both outright and deferred giving to the University
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President for Development and Alumni Affairs
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience may subsitute for some of the above education requirements
Qualifications:
  • 10 years or more of experience in organizing and executing a major gift program
  • Proven working knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques

  • Expert knowledge of all aspects of the location, including current issues of concern for both the campus and / or throughout higher education / healthcare, generally

  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies

  • Expert skills in making persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives for a location in order to secure gifts

  • Excellent organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills. Expert project / program management skills, including skills in setting and meeting program / project goals and objectives within budget and time constraints

  • Demonstrated experience in institutional fundraising or equivalent experience.Proven experience in the full spectrum of development including: gift policies, solicitations, stewardship, donor recognition, high level boards, support groups and administration

  • Proven success as a development officer in a highly sophisticated donor-centered fundraising environment as a direct-line fundraiser

  • Effective interpersonal and team-building skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, faculty, donors, volunteers, and university officials, with an emphasis on tact, diplomacy, flexibility, collaboration, professionalism, and discretion

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the technique of donor prospect research with the ability to extract the pertinent/critical information from various sources

  • Expertise using online databases

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a commitment to diversity and inclusion
