Organizational Unit Overview:

The Department of Public Health of the Brody School of Medicine, at East Carolina University (ECU) is located in Greenville, North Carolina. ECU, a Doctoral/Research-Intensive University, is the third largest of the 17-campus University of North Carolina system. Our Department of Public Health is committed to educating professionals and conducting research to improve the health of communities in our region and beyond. Home to 11 faculty members, the Department of Public Health has three concentrations: Epidemiology, Community Health and Health Behavior, and Health Policy, Administration and Leadership. Our MPH program prepares professionals to identify and address complex public health challenges using innovative and collaborative approaches that integrate research and service primarily in rural settings. The Department promotes a diverse and inclusive climate and seeks to enhance interdisciplinary teaching and research.

Job Duties :

This position will provide patient scheduling support and other administrative duties to a team of interdisciplinary providers delivering health services to rural patients via telehealth. This position will function as a member of the public health research team in the implementation of grant-funded school- and home-based programs to assess the effectiveness of delivering telehealth-enabled care when delivered directly into patients’ school or home settings rather than into a hospital or clinic setting.

This position will work alongside district school nurses, staff, and faculty as well as medical, dental, and nutrition providers from ECU and other regional partners to provide administrative and scheduling support for healthcare services delivered to rural children and adult patients.

It will serve as the first point of contact for the program(s) and should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing, as well as collaborative and problem-solving skills.

It will primarily be responsible for incoming referrals, patient registration and after-visit protocols, patient scheduling, and records and reports maintenance of electronic filing systems.

Teleworking will be considered for this position; however, selected candidate may be required to attend onsite training and initial work.

Minimum Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation:

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

  • Associate Degree in Medical Office Assistance, Business Administration, Healthcare Management Technology, or other related degree from an accredited two-year program with one year healthcare experience or equivalent education or experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Strong navigation skills within the applicable modules of the Electronic Health Record (training will be provided for selected candidate if no prior experience).
