A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Brian Russo, Department of Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Colorado. Our research is aimed at understanding how bacterial pathogens cause disease. Specifically, we are using cellular models of Shigella flexneri infection to determine how this organism spreads between cells.

Responsibilities:

-Perform hypothesis driven research.

-Analyze research data and interpret results.

-Maintain research records in a laboratory notebook.

-Present data in laboratory setting and at appropriate Department and University seminars.

-Training of junior laboratory personnel in experimental techniques.

-Apply for independent funding.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $54,840-55,632

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, or related field. The applicant should be self-motivated, hard-working, and willing to work flexible hours.

Preferred qualifications:

-Excellent oral and written communication.

-Ability to effectively plan and organize a research project.

-Demonstrated ability to independently develop hypotheses and to perform, design, and analyze experiments.

-Previous experience working with BSL2 level pathogens is desired but not required.

-Previous experience with molecular cloning, microscopy, western blotting, and genetic screening is desired.

-Experience in keeping activity logs and maintaining a laboratory notebook.

-Ability to compete for NIH T32 training grants (US citizen or permanent resident) is preferred.
