The School of Public Affairs (SPA) at the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) seeks to hire a full-time (9-month academic year) tenure-track Assistant Professor in Public Administration to start August 2023. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in both the Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration (BAPA) and the Master of Public Administration (MPA) programs, as well as maintain an active research agenda and publication record. Depending on background, the candidate may also teach in the Master of Public Policy (MPP) and/or and PhD in Public Affairs programs.

We are searching in the broad area of public administration/management, and we are open to various sub-field areas of expertise. Interest in social equity, civil society, social vulnerabilities, nonprofit management, collaborative governance, emergency management, urban/local government, and/or performance management would be particularly valuable. As part of our commitment to being a public affairs school in a public urban research university, we particularly encourage candidates whose research agenda is community-based and/or urban-focused, although we will consider all qualified applicants.

The normal class teaching load is 2:2. Applicants should be willing to teach in both face-to- face and online formats. Additional summer teaching opportunities may be available for additional compensation.

Our faculty have been successful in earning external funding for their research. Faculty currently have or have recently had grants from the National Science Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Ford Foundation, Arnold Foundation, Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, St. Louis Community Foundation, the Colorado Trust, the Community First Foundation, the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment, the US Department of Health and Human Services, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, and others. SPA faculty routinely attend and present at conferences around the world and are often invited to speak to both academic and practitioner communities on their areas of expertise. SPA faculty are nationally recognized leaders, currently or recently holding positions like major journal editors (Politics and Policy; Social Equity and Public Administration; Crime, Law and Social Change), NAPA members, NASPAA Executive Council, ARNOVA board, and many journal editorial boards.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $75,000 - $79,000 for a 9 month academic year contract salary

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
    Candidates must have completed a research Ph.D. in Public Affairs, Public Policy, Public Administration or a closely related field by July 1, 2023. A J.D. degree will not substitute for a Ph.D.

Preferred Qualifications:
    One or more publications in indexed academic journals (may be co-authored) Experience teaching as the instructor of record for at least one course at the undergraduate and/or graduate level

    Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution. Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
