Bachelor's degree and five years of related experience.  Additional experience may not be used on a one-to-one basis to offset the educational requirements. The university offers market competitive salary and benefits.  Grade EI  Salary commensurate with experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in non-profit fundraising, capital projects fundraising, particularly in higher education is preferred.

Position Description

The Senior Director of Development for the J.B. Speed School of Engineering serves as the lead major gift fundraiser for the JB Speed School of Engineering. The Senior Director will work with the Dean of the Speed School and the Assistant Vice President of Development for Belknap campus to plan and execute a philanthropic gift program that will align with priorities set forth by the Dean of the Speed School. This position will supervise the major giving development team while managing a portfolio of major gifts donor/prospects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, train and manage a staff of development professionals responsible for major gift fundraising for the JB Speed School of Engineering. 
  • Lead staff in planning and executing annual and long-term strategic operational goals by executing a comprehensive philanthropic program, in coordination with the Assistant Vice President of Belknap, and the dean of the Speed School.
  • Cultivate, recruit, and train fundraising volunteers and committees in support of the university's priorities and special projects. Coordinate events to assure that the cultivation of major donors and prospects is ongoing and comprehensive.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of approximately 50 major gift donors.
  • Solicit and secure gifts to reach a minimum annual goal of $1.5Million or more (as determined by supervisor). 
  • Complete a minimum of 125 face-to-face meetings annually with donors and prospective donors.
  • Record moves management activity within the Advancement database platform.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues through the Division of University Advancement including the Office of Alumni Relations, Office of Annual Giving, Advancement Services, Corporate and Foundation Relations, and the University of Louisville Foundation.

Some evening and weekend work is required.
