Position Summary:

The primary location of this position is Cullowhee, NC.

The School of Accounting, Finance, Information Systems and Business Law isseeking applicants for three (3) tenure-track, nine-month faculty positions beginning Spring 2023 or Fall 2023.

The successful candidates will bring expertise in areas of teaching and research that complement and integrate with those of our existing accounting faculty. All areas will be considered, but the specializations of immediate need are in audit and tax. Teaching interest and academic qualification in more than one area is desirable.

The normal teaching load is three courses (nine credit hours) per semester, which may include principles level courses. Primary duty assignments will be the main campus in Cullowhee, North Carolina; however, the duty assignments will likely involve delivery of one or more graduate classes at WCU’s Biltmore Park location in Asheville, North Carolina and/or online instruction. The successful candidate will be expected to advise undergraduate students, mentor graduate students, and fulfill normal institutional service obligations.

The successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to maintain current, active research agendas resulting in quality scholarly publications, that are relevant to their areas of expertise and teaching, in refereed journals and/or law reviews as required. The candidates will be expected to be excellent teachers. The successful candidates will advise students, be involved in appropriate student organizations, and fulfill normal institutional service obligations. Candidates should have a strong record or show promise to contribute to the intellectual and practical lives of students and other stakeholders of the School, College, University, and business community.

These appointments will be at the rank of Assistant and/or Associate Professor, with a potential start date in either January 2023 or August 2023. Teaching experience and scholarship records should be commensurate with the rank sought. Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD or DBA in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution that satisfies credentialing under SACSCOC guidelines or an equivalent accreditation association of higher learning recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

  • Established record of research or strong evidence of potential for sustained intellectual contributions related to the accounting discipline. ABD candidates will be considered, but must have the terminal degree conferred prior to their start date. The position requires teaching excellence and sustained scholarly productivity.

Preferred Qualifications:

Conferred doctoral degree in Accounting from an AACSB-accredited institution.Established record of research and evidence of potential for sustained intellectual contributions related to the accounting discipline. Undergraduate and/or graduate teaching experience. Relevant work experience in accounting. CPA license or other relevant licensure.
