The Professional Development Approval System (PDAS) Curriculum Writer is responsible for writing, researching, and developing curriculum for training adults in the field of early childhood education. The Curriculum Writer will collaborate with the Curriculum Coordinator, and other team members to develop adult training on topics in the child care industry. This position requires occasional travel requiring reliable transportation and a valid driver's license. The Curriculum Writer reports to the Professional Development Approval System Project Director.  

Responsibilities:

  • Write, research, and develop curriculum for both online and classroom training of adults
  • Revise, review, and edit training curriculum
  • Develop training activities for classroom and online training using adult learning principles
  • Coordinate with staff and vendors regarding production of curriculum materials, including participant and educator guides, resource kits, and related forms 
  • Work on committee groups as indicated by Project Director
  • Participate in scheduled required team and center-wide meetings and required OU Outreach events
  • Submit time certification and distribution forms
  • Submit claims for applicable work travel
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Job Location
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, related field

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines without direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the university community, government agencies, funders and partners, and the public
Certifications:

    Valid Driver's license

Departmental Preferences

  • Master’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Creative writing, or a related field. 
  • 18-36 months of experience in curriculum development designed for training adults
  • Experience working with Oklahoma’s early childhood professional development system, including Oklahoma Child Care Services, Child Care Licensing and Reaching for the Stars, and the Oklahoma Professional Development Registry
  • Experience with technical writing, including developing procedures manuals and user guides, and writing reports
