Business Research Analyst

Position:

Position serves as the business analyst for the Office of Associate Vice Chancellor, Campus Operations. Provides analytical support for budgeting, planning and reporting activities for campus auxiliary units and service centers. The primary responsibilities of this position include budget development and implementation, variance analysis, running financial scenarios and gauging their impacts on unit operations, monthly managerial reporting, and ad hoc analysis and reporting. Identifies missed revenue opportunities, assists departments with robust reporting to correct revenue oversights, and makes recommendations. This position has a Market Range 10 pay grade. 



Qualifications
Job Function/Responsibilities:

Planning, Reporting and Analysis:

  • Produce and maintain financial and operating reports from Revenue Vision, Adaptive Insights, Excel, PowerBI, and other software platforms.
  • Analyze current performance to plan; identify and research variances and trends, and bring to the attention of department heads for discussion and recommended solutions.
  • Analyzes campus expenditures with external vendors which could be supported by internal auxiliary or service center units and identifies opportunities .
  • Develops standard/routine financial reports for auxiliary units to maximize revenues and assists in developing operational metrics for auxiliary business lines.
  • Performs analysis to gauge operating performance and efficiency with reporting and effective recommendations for improvements.
  • Manage and evaluate all aspects of administering, monitoring and reporting current and long-term financial plans which reflect campus operations' strategic goals and mission.
  • Utilizing latest technology, develops in conjunction with unit leadership, Key Performance Indicators to be readily available in near real time to provide a better understanding of day-to-day performance.
Business Management:

  • Evaluates contracts and procurement initiatives for the division.
  • Reconciles and reviews monthly financial ledgers for AVC Administrative Office.
  • Provides direction and counsel to management to assist them in understanding financial reports and data, in controlling their costs and budgets and in fulfilling budgetary requirements.
  • Assists with Campus Space Management data and reporting as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to analyze, summarize, and utilize data in decision making
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and be familiar with software such as PowerBI
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and business practices
  • Knowledge of business management (ERP) software (e.g., SAP/Oracle)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to interact across organizational boundaries to resolve fiscal/resource issues.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritize and make decisions in a highly dynamic environment
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A working knowledge of SAP and Oracle.
Required level/type of experience and/or years of experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in related field. 
  • 3 to 5 years of professional finance or accounting experience to include experience involving financial analysis, budgeting, and reporting; experience with Microsoft Excel, databases, report writing software and ERP systems.
Preferred level/type of experience and/or years of experience:

  • Higher education experience; experience with SAP; experience with fund accounting.
