The Dental Assistant provides chair side dental assistance, prepares and sterilizes equipment. Document patient care and take and develop x-rays. May provide administrative assistance. Assists the dentists and residents during a variety of treatment procedures. Duties:
- Prepares set-up trays for anesthetic, operative, prosthetic, periodontal, prophylactic, endodontic, and orthodontic dentistry.
- Prepares dental equipment and materials for treatment.
- Takes and develops dental radiographs (x-rays).
- Follows infection control protocol and prepares and sterilizes instruments and equipment.
- Greets patient and gets them situated in the treatment room.
- Provides patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures.
- Takes impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth).
- May perform office management tasks that often require the use of a personal computer.
- Schedules appointments, answers phones, data entry, and orders supplies.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.
Job Location
Education: High School Diploma/GED, AND: Experience: 6 months experience as a Dental Assistant Certifications/Licenses:
- Required to have CPR - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification and an active Dental Assistant Permit from the OK Board of Dentistry. Ideal candidates would posess any certifications from Oklahoma Board of Dentistry in: Radiation Protection and Safety, Coronal Polishing and Topical Fluoride, Placement of Pit and Fissure Sealants, Assisting in the Administration of Nitrous Oxide
- Physical: Standing for long periods of time. Manual dexterity. Speaking, listening, walking and reaching.
- Environmental: Clinic Environment. Exposure to infectious diseases and blood borne pathogens.
