Associate Director Admissions
The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Admissions Office is seeking an Associate Director of Admissions who will report to the Director of Admissions Recruitment and will coordinate and oversee the recruitment and enrollment yield of students. In close consultation with the Director, the Associate Director will manage ongoing strategic initiatives to ensure enrollment meets expectations of the School's mission including program targeted goals, diversity and excellence. The Associate Director will work very closely with the School's ten academic departments, Schoolwide DrPH and MPH Programs, as well as certificate/institute programs, requiring direct and frequent communications with academic coordinators, faculty and administration.

The role works as a part of the Admissions Services team as well as in collaboration with other BSPH units including all Department/Program offices; Student Affairs (Financial Aid, Records & Registration, Career Services; Student Life, SOURCE); External Affairs (Alumni Affairs, Marketing & Communications); Inclusion, Diversity, Anti-Racism and Equity (IDARE); CoursePlus/eLearning, Information Technology; and Office of International Services. This position is expected to function collegially and effectively in a team environment, working well with others toward achieving objectives, but also functioning as a self-directed individual with ability to initiate new strategies, set own deadlines and establish workflow.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the lead Schoolwide recruiter representing all departments, academic degree and program offerings to recruit domestic and international students, with a focus on underrepresented minority groups
  • Supervise the Admissions Recruitment Officer to increase marketing and recruitment efforts for degree programs, especially online programs
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the field of public health and be an expert on the academic degree/program offerings to advise prospective students appropriately. Will be expected to know and connect all prospective students to the appropriate JHU faculty member or point of contact regarding research interest and/or career tracks (across JHU)
  • Collaborate with Director to design, plan and facilitate all on-campus recruitment and Schoolwide events including New Student Orientations, Open Houses, Admitted Student Visitors Days, and all virtual information sessions
  • Manage recruitment efforts including diversity site visits, campus tours, online chats, webinars and student appointments, maximizing use of technology. Provide data annually to analyze effectiveness and yield; will make improvements as needed
  • In collaboration with the Director, identify target schools, organizations, programs, etc. for recruitment outreach
  • Develop relationships with schools and programs for virtual recruitment activities including panel discussions and program information sessions
  • Manage budget, logistical details, and membership status for recruitment fairs/conferences, including attendance at over 70+ events annually
  • Research and provide data analysis on all trends in public health enrollments (regional, national and international trends). Will run and audit recruitment yield reports for the School and will provide data for SPH reports, grants, etc.
  • Coordinate and host monthly or bi-monthly information sessions highlighting specific centers and/or institutes at the School
  • Along with Director manage a student ambassador program to help with schoolwide recruitment efforts (panels, in-person events, tours, etc.)


Department & Program-Specific Marketing/Recruitment Efforts:
  • Meet with departments and programs to understand their marketing and recruitment needs (to increase application numbers and/or to increase yield of new students), and then develop program-specific recruitment/marketing plans to meet these needs
  • Write content and set up program-specific communication campaigns in Slate (CRM system) for prospective students, in-progress applicants, applicants, and admitted students
  • Assist departments/programs with developing program-specific digital and social media campaigns
  • Manage outreach to relevant undergraduate advisers to promote specific programs (e.g., MHS in Global Health Economics - reach out to Economics and Business advisers)
  • Engage relevant employers who offer opportunities for personnel to pursue higher education through some form of tuition assistance or reimbursement (online/part-time programs)


Strategic Planning:
  • Analyze current and past application/yield numbers to help create strategic marketing plans
  • Analyze numbers to determine main competition for each program. Understand what the competition looks like and how our School compares
  • Conduct research to determine new competitors
  • Provide department/program training for faculty, administrators and staff regarding best practices related to recruitment, admissions processes and increasing enrollment yields
  • Provide webinars, training sessions, and online resources as necessary. Will meet with department faculty and staff to determine best recruitment strategies to meet enrollment goals for specific programs


Other Responsibilities:
  • Travel on behalf of BSPH for recruitment and other institution related events
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with faculty, students, staff, alumni and key public health constituents to improve enrollment yields
  • Speak publicly to individuals, groups, on and off campus
  • Develop and monitor statistical reports to enhance recruitment strategies for masters, doctoral and certificate programs
  • Establish and maintain new relationships with external constituents at feeder institutions and organizations
  • Arrange and conduct interviews with students as well as local, regional and national group information sessions
  • Mobilize BSPH alumni, in cooperation with Alumni Affairs, to support the recruitment efforts of the School
  • Develop targeted, strategic initiatives to ensure admission goals are met related to the recruitment of students from underrepresented groups
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Three to five years related experience in college admissions, financial aid, and/or enrollment management
  • A strong understanding of graduate admissions, recruitment, and strategic enrollment management is needed
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency formula*


* JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

** Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience coordinating programs and working effectively with faculty, students, staff and alumni
  • Ability to effectively communicate in person and in writing and be able to speak publicly
  • Must have ability to analyze admissions data and trends, forecast changes in enrollment/higher education and develop appropriate strategies to respond
  • Should possess high energy, attention to detail, and the ability to organize effectively
  • Should have strong technology skills and the ability to work with a student database
  • Must be comfortable lifting/carrying boxes up to 25 pounds
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to travel and work nights and weekends as necessary
