Job Summary: The Coordinator Academic Support works as a key member of the Center for Student Success team to plan, improve, and operationalize academic support programs and services for students. These responsibilities will include the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of peer tutors and mentors.

Additional Department Summary: The Coordinator of Learning Commons (Tutoring) position coordinates the delivery of tutoring programs for individuals and groups of students; this includes hiring, training, and supervising student peer tutors, and overseeing the operation of a full-scale peer tutoring program. This position collaborates with campus partners and Capstone Center for Student Success colleagues to develop and implement a comprehensive array of tutorial and supplemental instruction programs and services to support academic success. In addition, this position works with others in the CCSS to identify emerging student needs, as well as student generational trends and trends in higher education; then uses that data to develop innovative and culturally relevant models for tutoring, as well as new cross-campus partnerships in support of new tutoring-oriented initiatives. Under limited supervision, the Coordinator manages and supervises student staff in the CCSS, as well as program delivery to enhance academic support and success of UA students, and identifies/implements technology-based services to enhance and expand offerings for students on campus and distance learners. The Coordinator participates in assessment efforts to identify programmatic needs and accountability for program success related to specified learning and operational outcomes, accurately maintains visit records and data, and develops/implements appropriate and effective marketing and communication strategies to promote programs, services, and activities to students served as well as campus-wide constituencies. The Coordinator will, as needed, provide one-on-one academic coaching to UA students and represent the Capstone Center for Student Success to constituents both on and off-campus. This position requires non-traditional work hours: Monday through Thursday, approximately 12:15 pm to 9:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am - 4:45 pm.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of experience.

Skills and Knowledge: Experience in supervision, advising, coaching, or student development experience in higher education. Highly developed positive interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse population. Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks, attend to detail, work independently, and adhere to strict timelines. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in order to successfully perform essential tasks as well as manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism. Proficiency using technology with the ability to collect, analyze, interpret, disseminate and report data regarding program outcomes and services to internal and external constituents. Ability to collaborate with other units within Academic Affairs and Student Affairs to plan and implement programs to promote student success and enhance student retention. Must be able and willing to work and interact with undergraduate students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators. Use of personal computers and standard application software (word processing, spreadsheet and/or database management programs). Good organizational, communication, public relations and management skills including budget management, planning, evaluation and assessment, marketing, and problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, college student personnel, or related area. Prior experience with the development, implementation and management of tutoring or peer leadership programs. Knowledge and understanding of best practices in student development, campus environments, community and student learning theories and their application in practice, and a tolerance for ambiguity.
