Job Summary:

Join Central Human Resources as the Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) or Director of Employee Relations & Performance Management. This is a full-time University Staff position that is currently fully remote. In the future, this position will work a hybrid schedule of 2-3 days per week on campus and as-needed for in-person meetings. This role serves on the Central HR leadership team and is a direct report to the Associate Vice Chancellor & Chief Human Resources Officer.

The position provides leadership, supervision, and direction of staff in the areas of employee relations, performance management, leave management, FML, Parental Leave, Emergency Response, Faculty/Staff Threat Assessment, ADA Staff and Faculty Accommodations, Unemployment claims filings, the campus's family support (Care.com) program, and alternative/flexible work arrangements. This position also oversees, as needed, campus health emergency issues related to employees/employment, including COVID response, state or federally-imposed public health emergency leave, and campus health emergency response.

In addition to setting goals for and managing the daily activities of the employee relations and performance management team charged with advising local HR Directors and business partners across 6 schools and colleges, and all Anschutz Medical Campus and CSA (central services administrative) units consisting of approximately 11,000 employees, this position:
    Advises campus leaders at all levels concerning employee relations, performance management and leave policies Interprets and applies State, Regent and Campus rules and policies with respect to all employee relations matters Establishes campus policies and processes for Staff performance management, leave management and other employee relations areas Collaborates with peers on the Central HR leadership team on strategic initiatives related to employee relations and performance Oversees the collection of performance ratings for Classified, University Staff and Faculty Oversees dispute resolution and interventions in interpersonal behavioral issues and conflicts in the workplace, the Classified Staff grievance and dispute processes, and unemployment hearings Oversees formal investigations of alleged violations of laws or related University policies to include workplace violence and bullying Chairs the campus Faculty & Staff Threat Assessment (FaST) team and serves as a key member of the Anschutz Medical Campus Professionalism Executive Committee Serves on multiple cross-campus committees and ensures that system-wide, State or Federal changes related to areas overseen are implemented across the campus Ensures the campus is represented on Title IX or other cross-campus committees that impact employee relations activities or campus policies.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
    A bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a directly related field from an accredited institution

The following are the minimum experience requirements for the Assistant Vice Chancellor OR Director level position.

Assistant Vice Chancellor
    Ten or more years of progressively responsible experience at the management level, including direct responsibility for managing employee relations and performance functions. Five or more years of progressively responsible experience managing staff, including direct responsibility for evaluating candidates and making hiring recommendations, determining assignments, providing training, setting goals, planning and evaluating performance, establishing work hours and approving leave, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions of employees managed.

Director
    A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in managing employee relations and performance functions. A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience managing or supervising staff, evaluating candidates and making hiring recommendations, determining assignments, providing training, setting goals, planning and evaluating performance, establishing work hours and approving leave, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions of employees managed.

Preferred Qualifications:
    A Master's degree in Human Resources, Juris Doctorate (JD), Business or other relevant degrees HR certification: SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR Demonstrated experience leading with a proven ability to facilitate cross-functional teams. Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with internal customers, manage external vendors and contractors, and positively influence key constituents. Demonstrated experience leading and managing projects across cross-functions teams Experience working in an institution of higher education Experience with progressive discipline and related processes in the Colorado State Personnel System Experience working in a PeopleSoft (or similarly complex) HR systems environment Experience working with automated Performance Management tools and systems

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate a broad range of laws, rules, and regulations in order to exercise good judgment in applying them to human resource challenges Knowledge of the professional standards, concepts, and practices of recruitment and selection, compensation, and human resources policy Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, including public speaking and presentations Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution Strong business acumen and a thorough knowledge of current management and leadership methods and best practices

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as

Assistant Vice Chancellor: $120,000-$150,000 annually

Director: $100,000-$120,000 annually

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
