The Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion position.

Nature of Work:
The position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion is the senior diversity officer responsible for assisting the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the implementation of the university's strategic goal of becoming an equity serving institution. This officer reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and provides leadership for enhancing and sustaining diversity, promoting a culture of inclusiveness, and executing strategic initiatives that contribute to the success of students, staff, and faculty.

Supervision Received: Reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Supervision Exercised: Serves as an appointing authority and supervises Center for Identity & Inclusion staff in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion office located on the Denver Campus (8 FTE total).

Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the development of metric-based tools for all schools, colleges, and academic and operational units in their efforts to recruit and retain diverse faculty, staff, fellows, and undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
  • Foster the design and integration of programs aimed at student success, with particular attention to programs that serve historically underserved students.
  • Assist schools, colleges, and academic and operational units to successfully implement their diversity and inclusion plans.
  • Supervise, guide, and shape an innovative approach for the Center for Identity & Inclusion in its mission to reach all students in the creation of a culture of belonging at the university.
  • Work with Associate Vice Chancellors, and Deans to foster faculty research and curriculum development on diversity, inclusion, and related issues, including inclusive pedagogy.
  • Devise and monitor systems of evaluation that measure success for inclusive work and educational climate, reporting evaluative results regularly to the university community and using the results for continuous improvement.
  • Directly support and oversee grant-writing, development, and fundraising activities specifically to enhance the university's Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI) efforts.
  • Develop effective communication and consultation relationships with key internal and external Denver community stakeholders; serve as a liaison with the community and build an effective relationship between the community and the University around issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Serve as a resource for the University on matters related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, maintaining a clearinghouse for information on these matters (excepting areas of legal compliance)
  • Review and make recommendations regarding university policies and procedures for improving and strengthening the University's efforts in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Serve as public spokesperson on matters related to maintaining and enhancing a diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus environment when the VCDEI is unavailable
  • Collaborate with other campuses within the University of Colorado system
  • Serve as a trained search advocate on senior-level positions at the university
  • Support the VCDEI in the development and implementation of culturally responsive leadership workshops and educational strategies for administrators, faculty, and staff
  • Promote the use of High Impact Practices (HIPs) through the support of structured programs that facilitate faculty use of HIPs and student access to these powerful learning experiences.

Salary and Benefits:
The hiring range for this position has been established at $120,000 to $160,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • An advanced graduate or professional degree from an accredited college or university.
  • This position requires extensive, diverse, and progressively responsible experience in advocacy for and success in fostering a positive environment for diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Five years of leadership experience in higher education which includes the advancement of diversity initiatives and management of professional staff and other resources (ex. fiscal, student staff, and other university resources).
  • Three or more years overseeing budgets.

Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Written and/or oral fluency in non-English language.
  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion experience at an institution with a comprehensive urban undergraduate and graduate campus.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and record of success at an HSI, HBCU, AANAPISI or Tribal College.

  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with special emphasis on demonstrated conflict de-escalation skills
  • Excellent written and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to successfully prioritize among multiple tasks and manage multiple projects on distinct timelines
  • Leadership experience and skills in conceiving and carrying forward new initiatives
  • Skills in identifying problems, analyzing data and making recommendations
  • Ability to be creative, innovative and willing to take risks to accomplish the goals of the institution
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and maintain positive interpersonal relationships within an ethnically and culturally diverse urban environment
  • Proven record as an advocate and project leader in diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Documented experience in developing, implementing and evaluating strategic plans with positive results
  • Proven track record of increasing success in fostering a positive environment for diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrated ability to garner external resources through grants and gifts
