Nature of Work

The Center for Inclusive Design and Engineering within the College of Engineering, Design and Computing at UC Denver has an opening for a full-time Research Assistant/Associate Professor in assistive technology and Human Factors.

Examples of Work Performed

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

1. Teach

a. Develop and deliver course offerings at the bachelors, masters and PhD level as they relate to assistive technology, rehabilitation and human factors;

2. Research

a. Conduct product testing/user experience/usability testing with targeted products and/or products under development, conduct usability and feasibility tests

b. Collect data and actively participate in assigned research protocols

c. data analysis

d. Complete and publish reports for consumer and industry partners on accessibility and usability of AT products.

e. Serve as a key member of the bioengineering and AT Laboratory, leading an array of research projects and mentoring graduate students

f. Assist and mentor colleagues in the successful submission of IRB protocols for funded projects; Write protocols and informed consents for Institutional Review Board

g. Produce research of excellent quality and publish results in top journals

h. Perform statistical modeling including survival, logistic regression, GLM and longitudinal data analysis

i. Develop research agenda

3. Manage department resources

a. Serve as an active participant and team member in day-to-day activities of the program;

b. Assist in industry services, budgeting, development and marketing to expand capabilities of CIDE.

4. Customer and Client Relations

a. Work with Director of CIDE and Industry Services Coordinator to develop and sustain industry partnerships and ongoing business development activities

b. Work with Industry Services Coordinator to develop and execute strategic planning

c. Support students interested in participating in human favors research. Develop mentoring activities with students.

5. Provide Services

a. Support university and local community in service activities

b. Serve on local committees within the university system and in the community

6. Supervise and support students and other faculty

a. Support bioengineering masters and undergraduate research students as directed by CIDE Director

b. Mentor Students engaged in AT and Human Factors related coursework as offered.

c. Support faculty researchers through development of methodology through data analysis and publication of results

d. Supervise students in AT related coursework as offered

e. Serve as faculty committee member for MS/PhD student research

The Research Assistant/Associate Professor reports to the CIDE Director, Cathy Bodine.

Supervision Exercised

[NOTE: "supervise" signifies authorization to hire, terminate, discipline, and approve leave.

The Research Assistant/Associate Professor will not supervise other employees.

They will however, be responsible for mentoring students engaged in AT and Human Factors related coursework and support bioengineering students and undergraduate research students.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at

Assistant Professor: $90,000 to $100,000

Associate Professor: $138,827 to $148,299

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Research Assistant Professor:

• PhD in behavioral science, engineering or related field

• Minimum of 5 years clinical or academic experience

• At least 5 years of applied clinical research

• Knowledge of qualitative/quantitative data analysis tools and procedures

• At least 3 years experience in human factors/user experience/usability testing

Research Associate Professor:
• PhD in behavioral science, engineering or related field

• Minimum of 5 years clinical or academic experience

• At least 5 years of applied clinical research

• Knowledge of qualitative/quantitative data analysis tools and procedures

• At least 3 years experience in human factors/user experience/usability testing

Preferred Qualifications

• Statistical consulting experience that includes working with fellows and junior investigators

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team atmosphere

• Demonstrated organizational skills in order to meet vigorous time lines

• Technical/research Writing Experience
