. Nature of Work
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Katherine Fantauzzo
in the Department of Craniofacial Biology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus to characterize alternative RNA splicing mediated by the RNA-binding protein Srsf3 during mouse craniofacial development. We have previously demonstrated that ablation of Srsf3
in the mouse neural crest lineage leads to facial clefting due to defective cranial neural crest cell proliferation and survival, and further showed that Srsf3 regulates the alternative splicing of transcripts encoding protein kinases in the mouse facial process mesenchyme. This project will combine conditional mutagenesis in the mouse embryo with next-generation sequencing to test the hypothesis that Srsf3-dependent alternative RNA splicing mediates reciprocal signaling between the ectoderm and neural crest-derived mesenchyme during mouse craniofacial development. These studies will provide significant insight into the mechanisms underlying gene expression regulation during mammalian craniofacial development. We are seeking highly motivated, creative and interactive applicants with the ability to work independently. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong background in mouse developmental biology who published a first-author paper as a result of their Ph.D. work. Salary is commensurate with experience and will adhere to published NIH guidelines.
The entry level salary has been established at $54,840.
