Overall Description of Responsibility or Nature of Work
The research in the Schwartz/Yang Lab focuses on understanding how environmental stimuli affect health through genetic and epigenetic mechanisms. State-of-the-art techniques, including next generation sequencing, CRISPR genome editing, and transgenic animal models are used to accomplish these goals. We are looking for an individual interested in developing skills in functional genomics. This individual will work on projects that use animal and cell models to delineate the function of human genetic variants associated with pulmonary fibrosis. This individual will work under joint mentorship of Drs. David Schwartz and Ivana Yang.

Areas of Responsibility / Scope of Research
This individual will primarily use CRISPR-Cas9 and CRISPR-dCas9 tools to introduce genetic variants and manipulate expression of relevant genes in primary cell models of lung fibrosis. Work on other related projects on functional role of pulmonary fibrosis genetic variants will also be included.

  • Demonstrated expertise in presentation of results – both didactic and publications
  • Must be able to work independently and have advanced problem solving skills

Special conditions of employment:
  • Must be willing and able to work after hours when required by project deadlines

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $53,760 to $65,292.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
  • PhD in a biological discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years of mentored research

Preferred Requirements:
  • Proven experience and familiarity with genetics and genomics
  • Technical skills to produce wet lab results in animal and cell models
  • Proven experience and familiarity with CRISPR-Cas9 and CRISPR-dCas9 tools
