Overview

The Department of Biology at Ursinus College invites applications for two Tenure Track Assistant Professors (Aquatic Biology and Vertebrate Biology) to join the research active and teaching dedicated faculty in Biology in Fall 2023.

Responsibilities

The successful candidates will teach in the Biology core curriculum (BIO-101,102, and/or 201) and in their specialty and contribute to Ursinus’ Common Intellectual Experience first-year seminar and first year advising program. All courses at Ursinus seek to engage students in addressing the four questions of our distinctive QUEST curriculum, and the candidate’s teaching plans will reflect incorporation of QUEST. We will initially screen applicants based on their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Successful applicants will also demonstrate outstanding potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and development of a productive research program that provides opportunities for student achievement. Successful applicants will be supported with start-up funds and will be expected to seek external funding to support their research program. Dedicated lab space will be provided, along with access to shared facilities, including a staffed vivarium, in our newly constructed Innovation and Discovery Center. The Ursinus College Whittaker Environmental Research Station and Perkiomen Creek offer easily accessible sites for field-based research and outdoor laboratory activities.

Aquatic Biologist: The candidate will offer advanced courses in aquatic (freshwater and marine) biology and serve as a faculty member for Ursinus’ marine science minor.

Vertebrate Biologist: The candidate will teach BIO-305 (Human Anatomy) and advanced courses in their specialty.

Preferred Skills and Competencies

A Ph.D. and some teaching experience are required. Post-doctoral experience is preferred.
