Job Summary
The University of Colorado Boulder Marketing and Communications Advancement Team encourages applications for an Associate Director, Marketing and Creative Operations! Reporting to the Engagement Marketing Director, this position is the leader in determining strategic marketing and creative processes and workflow content strategy for the Office of Advancement at the University of Colorado Boulder. This position will implement various components of the digital communications strategy and will oversee the technical execution of digital engagement (including, email, social, and other digital marketing) to achieve identified goals for fundraising as well as alumni and donor engagement. This position plays a critical role in being a digital and data marketer and expert using Marketing Cloud and Salesforce. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to consistently learn and implement industry standard methodologies in delivering content to CU Boulder constituents. With the ability to work independently and collaboratively, the Associate Director of Marketing and Creative Operations strives to ensure marketing and creative operations' workflows are optimized and will successfully oversee the implementation of marketing programs and campaigns that support Advancement.

This position has the opportunity to work in a hybrid capacity, with some work hours taking place onsite at the CU Boulder campus and others being remote. This position supervises the Digital Marketing Program Manager, Social Media/Community Program Manager, and Marketing Program Manager.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Marketing Operations
  • Orchestrates, leads, develops and implements content and process management systems to organize and align workflow and priorities.
  • As the Marketing and Creative Operations leader, oversee the project management platform, including assignments, building out marketing plans, and serve as key administrator.
  • Build a Center of Excellence for our campus partners that provides consultation, leadership, standard methodologies, research, support and/or training on brand alignment, templates, messaging, processes, tools, workflows and reporting.
  • Manage communications calendar and quality control. Coordinate campus communications calendar in concert with a CU system calendar and the Advancement/Alumni Association calendar to ensure audiences receive communications from the university in a strategic and coordinated manner.
  • Manage content on a support website that includes an online forum, help desk and serves as a resource-hub for campus users.

Strategy and Alignment
  • Responsible for strategically establishing and maintaining key partnerships with other members of the Advancement Marketing and Communications team, donor relations, the alumni team, strategic relations, and marketing and communication leaders at the university, both in the colleges and centrally. Assists Engagement Marketing Director with increasing support and engagement among CU alumni, parents, and other key constituents. Contributes to exceptional quality, accuracy and brand alignment of all integrated communications presented and produced for digital platforms.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications and other Advancement leaders to ensure digital operations strategies align with organizational goals. Lead cross-channel campaigns for digital publications, solicitations, fundraising pieces, and major event collateral (for both donor and alumni events).
Digital Marketing
  • Coordinate audience segments, content, images and layout for digital marketing. Report email analytics, analyze performance and communicate insights/learning.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate delivery of emails and other digital communications.
  • Improve the customization and segmentation of digital content.
  • Improve the click-through and call-to-action response rates of digital communication campaigns.
  • Lead in the strategic use of email marketing software and other technology tools to deliver timely and relevant content to key audiences.
  • Monitor trends and technologies and identify emerging opportunities in digital communications and tools.
  • Use data analytics and metrics to evaluate the efficiency of digital communications and modify strategies as needed.
  • Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of Advancement content to drive audience members to the desired action (making a gift and/or engaging with the institution).
  • Provide technical support including answering general how-to questions, assisting with HTML fixes, and reporting and tracking software problems to the vendor.
  • Develop and maintain regular data analysis reports and share with program directors and other campus units.
  • Attend meetings and voice options for the best interests throughout the digital engagement implementation process.
  • Manage three employees: Digital Marketing Program Manager, Social Media/Community Program Manager, and Marketing Program Manager.
  • As needed, assist Senior Digital Operations and User Experience Strategist with communication/training needs and meetings.

What We Can Offer
  • The salary range is $65,000- 85,000 annually. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

What We Require
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, business or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of professional, job-related experience.
  • Engagement Marketing or Marketing Operations experience.


What You Will Need
  • Solid understanding of marketing and creative operations, including digital marketing channels and tools (email, online structures, including HTML and site hosting).
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines and meticulously manage details.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Understanding basic database structures.
  • Ability to multi-task, coordinate several programs and prioritize work to meet agreed upon deadlines.
  • Ability to deliver unrivaled customer service to a variety of different users with varied technical backgrounds and needs.
  • Clear understanding of e-mail standard methodologies.
  • A passion for learning the latest digital marketing and marketing operations technologies.
  • Ability to create documents and posts in web applications such as Word Press or Drupal.
  • Desire to grow, enhance existing programs and create new programs that offer more opportunities for alumni and internal audiences.
  • Strong teammate.
  • Strong desire to learn new tools and applications as needed.


What We Would Like You To Have
  • Four years of project management experience both working autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Experience in Advancement Marketing or related field.
  • Solid experience training users in using e-communications tools.
