Job Overview

In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine’s faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day.

The College of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine, is seeking to fill a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant position. This position will provide emergent care in the emergency setting as well as manage protocolized patients in the clinical decision making unit.

Essential Functions
  • Performs a physical exam based upon age and patient history as per the Standard Care Arrangement with a collaborating physician.
  • Serves as a Medical Control Officer for patient transport missions. Orders, interprets and evaluates laboratory tests and other diagnostic studies to assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
  • Develops a treatment plan in collaboration with the physician and members of the multidisciplinary care team.
  • May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by state and University of Cincinnati Medical Center prescriptive authority.
  • Actively participate in research relative to area of specialty.
  • Publish evidence based research in peer review publications.
  • Develop professional abstracts to be presented on the local, regional and national levels.
  • Actively develop and participate in providing evidence based education presentations and other learning activities for diverse disciplines.
  • Participate in Medical Team Rounds.
  • Actively involved with Quality Management, data collection and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Other activities and/or duties assigned to achieve the overall mission of the position within the Department.
Required Education

For Nurse Practitioner:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing and graduation from an ANA approved Nurse Practitioner Program.

For Physician Assistant:

  • Professional Degree.
  • Graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies.
Required Trainings/Certifications

For Nurse Practitioner:

  • Current/valid RN and APN license/license eligible to practice in the state of Ohio.
  • May require certification in corresponding specialty.

For Physician Assistant:

  • Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Must be licensed/license eligible in the State of Ohio with prescriptive authority.
Required Experience

For Nurse Practitioner:

  • Three (3) years nursing experience.
  • Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.

For Physician Assistant:

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience is required.
  • Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.
