Job OverviewAs one of the first medical schools in the United States, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.

A full time Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the laboratory of David Plas, PhD in the Department of Cancer Biology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Skilled scientists with interests in kinase signaling pathways, tumor cell metabolism, and/or apoptosis resistance are invited to join the Plas Laboratory in the effort to discover rationally developed strategies to treat glioblastoma, the most aggressive primary brain cancer. The position is supported by R01 and endowed research funds.

The successful candidate will team with the Principal Investigator to investigate S6K and AXL kinase targeting in glioblastoma. The incumbent will conduct research, analyze data and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of the University of Cincinnati.

Essential Functions
  • Perform experimental analysis using techniques in cell culture, spheroid culture, signaling pathway analysis, and/or metabolomic analysis. Maintain the laboratory’s mouse lines which may include management of mouse breeding and colony, genotyping and phenotyping, drug administration and surgical procedures.
  • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
  • Thoroughly document scientific activities in physical and online notes.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
  • Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
  • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well.

Required Education

Doctoral Degree in a related field.

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Laboratory research experience in Cancer Biology, Cell Biology or related field.
  • Track record of collaboration and productivity.
  • Evidence of strengths in communication and/or computational analysis.
Physical RequirementsOffice environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
