Responsibilities

Assists in the coordination of research proposal activities for the Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMS) by providing support for faculty, postdoctoral researchers, students, and staff applying for extramural funding and transferring awards. Activities include review and analysis of proposal documents; development of budgets; interpretation of sponsor guidelines and requirements; assistance in understanding College of Medicine (COM) and University policies and procedures; and assistance in processing proposals and correctly routing them through final submission. Facilitates coordination between COM faculty and staff, FSU Office of Research, and sponsor personnel as needed. Creates and maintains proposal files and compiles information for database entries on contract and grant activity, as well as other office activities that are tracked for various reporting purposes. Works with PIs and FSU Office of Research to facilitate sponsor awards and OMNI project set up.

Coordinates post award activity with BMS PIs, BMS administration and COM Research Accounting to ensure proper and timely adherence to project budgets, compliance and deadlines.

Participates in COM Pre-Post meetings and SRA training opportunities. Participates in research administration training and maintains applicable University certification(s). Maintains a working knowledge of the research expertise and interests of BMS faculty.

Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and one year experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience equal to five years. (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)

  • Experience with effective customer service skills.
  • Experience with communicating effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word, or equivalent software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Experience with compiling, reviewing and reconciling data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

Preferred
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and private sources for contract and grant funds.
  • Skill in preparing clear and concise reports, policies, procedures, correspondences, and other written materials
