Position Description

Reporting Relationship: Accountable to the Learning Coordinator, School of Health

The typical schedule will be Monday through Friday, eight work hours per day with an unpaid lunch, as assigned by the supervisor. While these hours are typical, they may be subject to change as workload and needs of leadership, program and work areas, students and customers change.

Position Summary: Serve as a Health Simulation Technician providing direct support to faculty and leadership for simulation activities, and divisional support within and outside classroom and laboratory settings. The Simulation Technician specializes in both the technologies and methods used in the planning, preparation, and execution of simulation-based healthcare training and education events.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain, operate and utilize specialty simulation equipment, and ensure all related equipment is updated and in good working order.
  • Serve as simulator operator running, preparing and maintaining simulation scenarios and schedules in a variety of Health programs.
  • Equipment set-up and breakdown including moulage requested simulations, set up supplies, materials and cleaning of simulators.
  • Provide technology management, maintenance, technical support, troubleshooting and implementation within Simulation Center.
  • Facilitate the repairs of, cleaning and maintenance and orderly storage of equipment.
  • Acquire, maintain, and distribute Health-related equipment, supplies and resources for utilization at Wausau, and outlying campus locations, or other educational sites, as directed.
  • Provide training and serve as a technology and simulation best practice resource for all Health programs utilizing the Simulation Center.
  • Develop and recommend opportunities of continuous improvement of processes (spreadsheets, databases, inventory and other departmental tools) technology use/advancements, new trends, training opportunities, etc.
  • Participate in program team meetings and continuously collaborate with Health faculty.
  • Coordinate with instructors and leadership to setup major activities and events for students and rental/contractual agreements.
  • Assemble and position equipment and materials in support of program and contractual/rental training events and operate and maintain needed equipment as determined during the event.
  • Schedule, plan and promote simulations activities and special events for community such as K-12 events, tours, contests, seminars, etc.
  • Track, schedule and drive Health mobile lab(s) for routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Collaborate with team on planning, purchasing, maintenance and inventory management and ordering of needed equipment and supplies.
  • Prepare, organize, and monitor work orders and status (i.e.; New School Dude/IT Help Desk).
  • Maintain current knowledge of organizational procedures, policies, practices, and keep apprised of all emerging technologies affecting simulation, and participate in technical training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Associate Degree in area of health sciences and/or technology and two years of experience working in a simulation lab with mannequins and simulation software, preferred. A minimum of two years of Healthcare related experience with one year post-secondary education. Additional appropriate experience will be considered as an equivalent to one year of post-secondary education. This position must demonstrate the ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, exercise initiative and judgment and make decisions within the scope of authority. Must be detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills.

  • Hold a valid Wisconsin driver’s license upon employment with the ability to meet NTC’s insurance carrier’s criteria

    AED/CPR, Bloodborne Pathogen, Chemical Hygiene, Emergency Eye Wash, Emergency Procedures, Ergonomics (office/workplace), and Slips, Trips and Falls.
