Nature of Work

The University of Colorado (CU) School of Medicine is seeking a talented individual to fill the role of a full-time Social Media and Web Specialist. This position is responsible for creating and managing content on various CU School of Medicine department websites and social media platforms, ensuring that content is compelling, accurate, relevant, current, and consistent with CU brand messaging.

The position requires exceptional attention to detail, the ability to stay on task, and the ability to work with varying levels of staff and faculty to gather information, write, and distribute content appropriately. The position is a hybrid in-person and remote work model, and it requires excellent project management abilities in a fast-paced environment.

This position, while part of the CU School of Medicine communications team, will support departments, centers, and programs within the communications shared services. This growing team's goal is to elevate and connect the communications between the school and its departments, divisions, and centers.

Examples of Work Performed

Social media:
    Develops social media strategy, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube, to promote the mission and vision of the CU School of Medicine's various departments, centers, and programs. Produces and maintains the social media editorial content calendar. Responds promptly to any messages, comments, etc. Monitors social media mentions of the CU School of Medicine's various departments, centers, and programs, and engage in relevant online discussions. Generates social media videos and infographics. Develops, implement, and tracks the effectiveness of social media or digital campaigns. Creates and manages social media boosting to get optimum results.

Website:
    Uses Sitefinity and HubSpot to manage and update content on the CU School of Medicine's various department, center, and program websites. Regularly updating existing content, generating new content, and cross-linking across CU sites and other related sites. Performs search engine optimization to help with website ranking. Ensures web content meets standards for accuracy, usability, and best practices.

Collaboration and best practices:
  • Builds and maintains relationships with faculty and staff within the CU School of Medicine and its various departments, divisions, and centers.
  • Collaborates with CU School of Medicine, Anschutz Medical Campus, UCHealth, Children's Hospital Colorado and Veterans Affairs, and others as appropriate.
  • Identifies and implements best practices with regard to communication practices, strategies, and tools.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    Exceptional independent writing skills and experience developing clear, concise, and key message-focused communications. Excellent knowledge in editing and grammar, including AP style. Demonstrated ability to consistently capture the voice of a brand/person. Highly organized and dependable; able to multitask, work quickly and effectively manage numerous deadlines with minimal supervision. Self-starter with ability to work independently and in a team environment. Demonstrated creativity and problem-solving skills. Dedicated to producing excellent work and excellent customer service.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
    Entry Professional:
      Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business, marketing, communications, public or media relations, journalism, or other related fields.
    Intermediate Professional: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business, marketing, communications, public or media relations, journalism, or other related fields. One (1) year of experience working in professional or branded social media growth and management, or related communications, public relations, and marketing field(s), preferably in health care or higher education.
Senior Professional: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business, marketing, communications, public or media relations, journalism, or other related fields. Two (2) or more years of experience working in professional or branded social media growth and management, or related communications, public relations, and marketing field(s), preferably in health care or higher education.
***Those selected for interviews will be asked to provide writing samples of the following:
    Three (3) – five (5) social media posts, considering a mix of infographics, videos, and website posts. 1 informational article.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with project management, prioritization, timelines, and ensuring on-time deliverables.
  • Additional training/professional development in the following areas: social media strategy and implementation, writing for the web, search engine optimization, content management systems, HTML, and video editing.
  • Experience working in a web content management system (Sitefinity, HubSpot).
  • Communications experience in a university, academic medical center, and/or large hospital system environment.
  • Experience with videography and video editing.
  • Exposure to, or knowledge of, HIPAA policies and procedures.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:
    Entry Professional - $44,380 to $56,451 Intermediate Professional - $48,295 to $61,432 Senior Professional - $52,411 to $66,413

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
