As part of the UCCS Parking and Transportation Services Department, a professional shuttle driver is responsible for transporting passengers to both on and off campus locations (within 100 air-mile radius from the campus). To operate a shuttle on campus, this position will be required to possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger and airbrake endorsements. If hired without a CDL, we will pay for all associated training and testing in order to obtain a CDL.

This position will be responsible for the safe operation of campus owned shuttles to transport passengers to and from the main campus to distant parking lots. This position will also provide periodic charter shuttle services for campus departments needing to transport passengers to off campus locations which will be within a 100 air-mile radius of the main campus.

This 50% position will generally only work Mondays – Fridays during the fall, spring and summer terms each year, which is approximately 40 weeks per year. During the 16 week fall semester and the 16 week spring semester, this position will work an average of 32 hours each week. During the 8 week summer semester, this position will work an average of 14 hours each week. When charter services are needed, this position may be required to work during the 3-4 week breaks between each semester and on occasional weekend days throughout the entire year.

This position is subject to random driving record checks and random alcohol and drug screenings throughout the entire employment period.

Job Duties:
  • Provide safe, dependable transportation both on and off campus.
  • Assist with vehicle refueling and fluids, sweeping buses, and performing vehicle safety inspections.
  • Be available to drive for other drivers that have called in sick or is otherwise unable to work their regular shift.
  • Drive charters for athletic teams, school organizations and others as required.
  • Safely assist loading, unloading and securing of disabled passengers in a professional manner.
  • Assist with training various members of the campus community to drive motor pool vans.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections with a high degree of accuracy and safety.
  • Maintain proper passenger counts and related paperwork.
  • Use good judgment when need arises to alter assigned routes due to traffic conditions.
  • Be prepared to work any time of day or night, to include weekends.
  • Other assigned duties as needed.

  • Job Competencies:
  • Ability to safely operate commercial motor vehicle shuttles (15-55 passengers).
  • Drive in a legal and safe manner at all times.
  • Provide minor vehicle maintenance such as replacing tail lamps and headlights.
  • Office duties such as filing paperwork or computer data entry.

  • This position has been determined to be eligible for overtime (non-exempt) under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

    What We Offer:

    Salary Range: Generally starting at $19.00/hr without a valid CDL and $20.00/hr with a valid CDL

    This position is a part-time, 50% appointment, and generally only work during the fall, spring, and summer academic semesters.

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    This position is dependent on the availability of auxiliary revenues funding.

    Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possess a valid Colorado driver's license
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Successfully pass both a pre-employment background check and drug screening
  • Upon hire, if you do not have a valid Class C or higher CDL with passenger endorsement, we will provide training and testing in order to obtain a CDL. However, you must be able to successfully complete all CDL testing and training phases within the preestablished timelines in order to maintain employment status
  • Availability to attend two mandatory training sessions each year in January and August

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Possess a valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class C or higher, with passenger endorsement
  • Possess a valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate
  • Experience operating passenger shuttles that require a CDL

  • Physical Requirements:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit. Employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. Tasks may involve climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, and feeling; requires near acuity (clarity of vision at 20 inches or less) and far acuity (clarity of vision at 20 feet or more), depth perception, and field of vision. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
