The Exhibitions & Events Manager oversees day-to-day operations for the UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Art and performs all duties related to events and exhibition preparation; including but not limited to: oversight of two gallery sites and public sculpture program, managing supply budgets and procurement, visiting artist and/or speaker coordination and logistics, installation/set-up, de-installation/break-down, packing, shipping, and receiving artwork, set up and oversight of events and coordination of necessary event staffing. Work includes but is not limited to exhibition design and construction, and execution of a wide range of events throughout the year at both gallery sites and off-site locations.

Job Duties:

Assists with the overall planning and management of the UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Art schedule of exhibitions and related programs.

Works directly with artists, dealers, collectors, agents and museum professionals for the use of artwork in planned exhibitions and works directly with exhibiting artists before, during, and after exhibitions as needed.

Leads installation and de-installation team on behalf of Director. Duties may include hands-on preparation of exhibition areas such as construction and painting of temporary walls, art installation and adjustment of lighting, and other related activities.

Under direction of curatorial team, prepares written text related to exhibitions for publications, collateral, and web content.

Assists with curation and research of exhibitions as requested.

Trains staff and volunteers on exhibition basics and provides in-depth information for specific tours and events.

Manages audio tour and digital platform content programs for exhibitions.

Manages assigned budgets, procures supplies/materials, arranges for contract and student staffing, and coordinates logistics with visiting artists and/or speakers.

Prepares needs for all UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Art exhibitions and events, including GOCA 1420 (campus), GOCA121 (downtown), and off-site exhibitions and projects.

Supports planning for technical, material, and staffing needs for the installation and de-installation of exhibitions and all events.

Receives packing and shipping of artwork and is responsible for the proper handling and documentation.

Ensures the proper upkeep of the Galleries including overseeing student gallery assistants, contract staffing, and maintaining upkeep of all tools and needed supplies.

Provides safety training and instruction to student and contract staff.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Competencies:

    Knowledge and understanding of organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures

    Demonstrated knowledge of museum installation techniques

    Experience with events across a range of sizes and importance.

    Experience with art handling, storage, packing, crating, and installation

    Exhibits knowledge of contemporary art, art history, and museum issues.

    Knowledge of building codes, construction techniques, materials and tools

    Ability to read building plans, specifications and diagrams

    Ability to perform a variety of building trade-skilled tasks, or find the appropriate cost-effective resources to perform.

    Ability to identify problems and resolve them quickly.

    Working knowledge in carpentry and safe handling of power tools.

    Familiarity with PC and Mac computers systems and software.

    Ability to consistently lift heavy objects up to 75 pounds and work effectively at up to 36' off the ground on ladders and lifts

    Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff

  • Effectiveness in working with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Work Location: On-site

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

What We Offer:

Salary Range: Generally starting at $46,990 - $62,653

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

  • This position is dependent on the availability of external gift funding. Funding is currently has no anticipated end date.

    Qualifications
    Minimum Requirements:

    Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Arts, Humanities, Art History or similar field of study

    Three (3) years of preparator experience in a gallery, museum setting, arts organization or work in a related field

    Three (3) years events coordination experience, in any setting



    Preferred Requirements:

    Master of Arts degree in Visual Arts, Humanities, Art History or similar field of study

    Six (6) years of preparator experience in a gallery, museum setting, arts organization or work in a related field

    Six (6) years events coordination experience, in any setting

    Physical Requirements:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move. Employee is occasionally required to remain stationary. This position requires the ability to balance, bend, kneel, crawl, crouch, reach, and handle objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
