Assistant Professor - Sociology - 25059 Faculty

The Department of Sociology in the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences (LAS) invites applications for a tenure track appointment at the assistant professor rank to begin August 2023. We seek a broadly trained sociologist with expertise in Black Studies or Asian Studies. Other areas of focus might include one or more of the following: community organization, deviance, globalization/borderlands, homelessness, sexuality, social inequalities and crime, sustainability/environment, and urban communities. Applicants should also have an interest in teaching courses to support university diversity, equity, and inclusiveness efforts to retain marginalized students. This position will teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels with a 3/2 teaching load including face-to-face and possibly online courses

Work Location: Typically, on-site; position may be partially remote, based on the semester-to-semester need of the department, as determined by the supervisor.

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

What We Offer:

Salary Range: Generally starting at $60,000 - $63,000 per academic year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Tentative Search Timeline:

    The potential dates for first-round interviews will be the week of October 10, 2022.

    The potential dates for second-round interviews will be the week of October 24, 2022.

    The potential employee start date is August 14, 2023.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

    PhD in Sociology or cognate social science at the time of appointment

Preferred Qualifications:

    Demonstrated excellence in teaching

    Desire and ability to educate and mentor students

    Demonstrated commitment to Inclusion and Diversity

Physical Requirements:

For this faculty position, employee must be able to teach in person. There will be moderate energy requirements. This employee must also be able to conduct research.
