This is a 9-month tenure-accruing position that will be 60% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences), 20% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) and 20% extension (Florida Cooperative Extension Service), available in the Department of Agricultural Education and Communication, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. Duties will include (1) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (on-campus and by distance) in global and intercultural leadership centered in the field of Agriculture and Natural Resources broadly; (2) planning and conducting high quality, productive research and Extension programs, which can work cohesively together; (3) securing and implementing externally funded projects in support of global and intercultural leadership education; (4) advising graduate students; and (5) contributing to the Department’s overall goals in scholarship, diversity, equity, inclusion, and access. Tenure will accrue in the Department of Agricultural Education and Communication. The faculty member will seek contract and grant funding actively to support their program. The faculty member will engage in Extension activities in their program area.
The successful candidate will engage in scholarly activities related to instruction, including teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, participating in curriculum revision and enhancement, seeking funding for the teaching program, supervising undergraduate and graduate research and creative work, publishing teaching-related scholarship, producing learning tools, and engaging in professional development activities related to teaching and advising. Faculty are encouraged to support and participate in the CALS Honors Program, distance education, and international education.
The successful candidate will participate actively in undergraduate and graduate education by chairing and serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis, dissertation and undergraduate research, and publishing research results with students. Faculty are encouraged to participate in professional development activities related to teaching and advising and may teach courses and seminars.
Because of the IFAS land-grant mission, all faculty are expected to be supportive of and engaged in all three mission areas—Research, Teaching and Extension—regardless of the assignment split specified in the position description.
The Department of Agricultural Education and Communication is a comprehensive academic unit in the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) at the University of Florida and has diverse teaching, research, and extension education programs with 26 faculty members and 13 support personnel located on the Gainesville campus. An additional three faculty members directing the department’s program at the UF/IFAS Plant City location. This position is available January 3, 2023 and will be filled as soon thereafter as an acceptable applicant is available (January 3, 2023 or August 15, 2023 anticipated start dates).
Commensurate with Education and Experience
A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in agricultural leadership education or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.
Postdoctoral experience is desirable. Background experience, expertise, and interests that support a teaching and research focus on global and intercultural leadership. Previous international travel/experience, broad international perspectives, and basic working proficiency in non-English language(s) are also preferred. Coursework and/or professional experience in intercultural communication are desired.
