Position Information: Description

The University of North Dakota Department of Athletics is currently recruiting for a Director of Communication and Web Services  The primary function of the Director of Communication and Web Services is to assist in the development, coordination, maintenance, enhancement, design, and content of the UND Athletics website while also serving as the direct communications contact for the Women’s Basketball and Women’s Soccer programs.  This position will use discretion and independent judgement, and will use creative license to formulate, affect, and implement operating practices related to assigned sports.  Invention, imagination, originality, and talent must be exercised by the employee on a daily basis. 

The Director of Communication and Web Services is a full-time position within the athletic communications department and reports director to the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications and Content.  Must have a commitment to compliance with all NCAA rules and Regulations.  Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes.

The purpose of UND Athletics is to initiate, stimulate, and improve the athletics program for student-athletes to promote and develop their education leadership, physical fitness, athletic excellence, and provide opportunities for participation in a sport of choice.  Its competitive athletics program is designed to be a vital part of the University of North Dakota’s education system by stressing the importance of each student-athlete being an active part of the student body while making satisfactory progress toward a baccalaureate degree.

Duties & Responsibilities
    Serve as communications contact for Women’s Basketball and Women’s Soccer programs.Arrange media requests for coaches and student-athletes and respond to media requests & inquires in a timely fashion.Manage press areas before, during, and after program’s home competitions, including leading student-interns and stat crew.Direct press conferences including placement of media backdrops.Direct all web services for UND Athletics website.Responsible for creative design and development of the athletics website.Develop, coordinate, and perform maintenance, enhancement, design, and content of the UND Athletics website.Provide advice, insight, and recommendations on future concepts, development, and director of web-based services.Coordinate with others as required to ensure website is consistent with other print and electronic communications.Communicate with website host for updates and changes in a timely fashion.Official point of contact for UND Athletics regarding website matters.Assist in content strategy with external operations unit.Submit award nominations in a timely manner. Responsible for all communications functions for departmental needs (i.e. Hawkademy, SAAC, SAID)Lead and direct projects for the general athletic department not related to a specific sport.Assist in promotion of non-sport related programs through, but not limited to, social content and press releases.Maintain archives for UND Athletics and all teams.  Direct and assign photographers, as necessary.Schedule photographers for all UND home athletic events & any applicable non-athletic events (i.e. Hall-of-Fame, banquets, Night of Champions).Manager yearly photography budget for athletics.  Work with each athletic program on scheduling headshots and team photos each year & upload onto athletics website.Upload photo galleries to athletics website in a timely manner.Build positive relationships with local and national photographers.Other duties as assigned by Assistant Athletic Director for Communications & Content.
Required Competencies
    Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including speaking, writing, and editing.  Excellent organizational and computer skills.Must have effective professional working relationship with student-athletes, staff, administration, alumni, and general public.Must have commitment to NCAA compliance and follow all NCAA, conference and UND rules and regulations.Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes including having a valid driver’s license.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • One year of experience in the design, creation, and implementation of professional websites.
  • Strong social media presence and demonstrated use of various social channels to include Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. 
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications
    Two years of experience in NCAA Division I, II, III, NJCAA, NAIA or professional level.Supervisory experience of graduate assistants, interns, student assistants & game-day event staff.Experience with SIDEARM CMS.Experience with cross-browser and cross-platform issues and design constraints of the Web.Experience with website development process, from idea concept through implementation.Experience using the following software: Adobe Creative Suite, NCAA Genius Stats, Microsoft Office.
Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification$40,000 - $43,000 / year.  Full-time, Benefitted position.

Work Schedule/Start DateRegular Work Schedule; attendance at athletic activities will require working nights & weekends to attend athletic events, and some travel may be required to attend away team competitions.
