User Experience Librarian

Position Summary

Collaborate on the full range of user experience and assessment projects to evaluate the usage, service quality, impact, and value of the MSU Libraries’ physical and digital spaces, services, and collections. Collaborate on the development, management, and maintenance of the MSU Library website, including creation of Drupal modules and features, interface design, and implementation of usability and accessibility improvements as identified by usability and accessibility testing. Design and develop custom applications as requested by Library units. Maintain web analytics programs such as Matomo and Google Analytics, and uses data from these programs to influence decision making and strategic planning. Collaborate on the Digital Repository, developing Drupal modules to improve the searching and browsing experience for Digital Repository users, and provides iterative improvements to the Digital Repository interface and accessibility features. Participate in the activities of the User Experience unit to communicate and collaborate on user experience projects across library divisions and units. Collaborate and lead accessibility initiatives, evaluating and improving the accessibility of the Libraries’ physical and digital services. Act as the library’s advocate for user experience and assessment, building a network of assessment professionals, and collaborating with these colleagues both on the MSU Campus, and in the BTAA and ARL communities. Participate in professional development and scholarly activities, and serves on Library and University committees as elected, appointed, or assigned.

Required Degree

Masters -Library and Information Science

Minimum Requirements

Education Requirements: Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.

Experience Requirements: 24 months experience in User Experience or Web Development.

Special Requirements: Experience must have included user experience design, usability studies, qualitative and quantitative evaluation; programming languages including Java and Swift; and web technologies including JavaScript, Bootstrap, HTML5, and CSS3
