Responsibilities Provides assistance in all aspects of patient care in conjunction with administrative and clinical staff at the FSU SeniorHealth™ Clinic. Performs clinical and administrative duties in support of assigned area or office at a proficient level and independent of supervision. Makes recommendations to improve programs, products, processes, or services.

Under the direction of the Practice Manager, performs all aspects of intake for patients, including taking accurate histories, patient vital signs, vision and hearing screens, and other screenings or questionnaires as needed by the clinician. Ensures all electronic health record (EHR) information is current. Sets up for and assists providers with exams and procedures. Gives injections and handles minor procedures such as collection and testing of specimens, casting, splinting and applying dressings, as needed. Participates in motivational interviewing and techniques of self-management support (goal setting and patient readiness to change). Performs high-level disinfection.

Performs as medical scribe for assigned clinician. Assists clinician during entire patient encounter, documents the visit as it occurs in real time. Accurately and thoroughly completes clinical notes of patients visit, orders, and procedures performed by the clinician for review and approval of the clinician. Anticipates clinicians’ needs to facilitate a smooth and efficient workflow. Performs duties in a discreet and tactful manner so as not to distract the physician from medical care. Works with practice manager and physicians to develop standardized documentation protocols and procedures. Performs other clerical duties and tasks to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow as assigned.

Assists with patient needs between visits. Triages patient phone calls and provides in-basket management support for clinicians. Notifies patients of test results and other follow-ups needed. Manages patient expectations and is able to resolve patient concerns independently. Schedules diagnostic testing and obtains prior authorizations as needed. Assists with traces and regulatory readiness for quality and patient care.

Screen incoming phone calls, answer routine questions and schedules patient healthcare appointments for FSU SeniorHealth clinics clinical settings. Assist in monitoring the clinical schedule for no shows and rescheduling opportunities. Maintain communication with nursing staff regarding unscheduled patients and patients that appear to need care prior to the first available appointment. Exhibit a willingness to float to all areas of need for administrative support including check in, check out, referrals or other administrative area as deemed necessary. Refers patients to specialist according to insurance guidelines, obtains authorizations for new and follow up visits and ancillary appointments. Completes billing transfers with laboratory companies/outside vendors. Performs administrative and clinical duties as assigned.

May be required to work one late evening per week. Attends 1 customer service training session or 1 leadership training session from a list of courses identified by practice leadership. On an annual basis participates on a practice committee. Promotes an atmosphere of teamwork in accomplishing the mission and goals of FSU SeniorHealth™.

Qualifications High school diploma or GED and two years of Medical Assisting or other applicable clinical work experience. (Note: post-high school education may substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)

    Valid Certified Medical Assistant Certification or Registration (CMA, NCMA, RMA or CCMA).Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Certification issued by a certifying agency, or the ability to obtain prior to hire.Current PPD (Purified Protein Derivative) test as performed by a qualified physician within the last six months.Physical examination completed by a qualified healthcare provider/physician within the last six months.Experience with applicable computer software and programs, such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Electronic Health Records, or comparable programs.Experience demonstrating effective customer services skills.Experience communicating effectively verbally and in writing.Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.Experience utilizing problem solving skills.Experience maintaining accurate records and retrieving files from active/archive sources.Knowledge of medical resources and terminology.
Within 30 days of hire, you must provide:

    Documentation of vaccination for Tetanus within the last 10 years.Proof of immunization OR positive titers for Hepatitis B.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience preparing clear and concise reports, procedures, correspondence, and/or other written materials.
  • ABR-OE credentials is highly preferred.

Anticipated Salary Range Starting salary is $34,520. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
