Job Description Summary:

Located in the heart of Southern California, Chapman University Dale E. Fowler School of Law provides a personalized and practice-focused approach to legal education that prepares our graduates to make a lasting difference in their communities.
The Career Services (CSO) is responsible for providing a full suite of personalized services to law students and alumni, helping them create, execute, and meet career goals and objectives. The CSO seeks an Associate Director, Assistant Director, or Director (depending on required experience) to partner with the Assistant Dean to implement strategic initiatives related to career advising, employer outreach, and programming services for law students and alumni.

Candidates eager to join a dedicated CSO team and provide personalized guidance to our students are encouraged to apply. This position is a full-time, year-round (12 month) administrative position.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis position includes the following representative duties and responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Assistant Dean and CSO team to implement strategies for career advising, outreach, and programming.
  • Meet with and advise/coach law students and alumni individually through all stages of career exploration, job search preparation, and professional development.
  • Review and provide feedback on student and alumni application materials.
  • Coordinate and participate in marketing and promotion of CSO programs and services to students, alumni, and employers
  • Meet with employers to increase employment opportunities for students and alumni.
  • Collaborate with CSO team to implement all aspects of recruiting programs, including student and employer communications, interview scheduling, and database management.
  • Assist with employment data collection process for internal and external reporting.
  • Contribute to overall office goals, maintain up-to-date records, and maintain regular communication with the Assistant Dean.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities for Director position
  • Oversee 1L Professional Development program; develop and lead programs and skills development workshops
  • Collaborate with Assistant Dean to develop comprehensive employer outreach and marketing plan.
  • Research and evaluate trends and factors affecting prospective employment and recommend strategies to increase employment outcomes.
  • Train team members on coaching and advising techniques and strategies, bar license required and juris doctor advantage career paths, and office policies and programs.

Required Qualifications:

Director – the following experience and education are required:

  1. Juris Doctor degree;
  2. Minimum of three years of experience in a law school career service office as an Associate Director (or an equivalent or higher role)
  3. A minimum of three years of experience in a judicial clerkship or as a licensed attorney at a law firm or other legal work setting (e.g., in-house legal department).
Associate Director – the following experience and education are required:
  1. Juris Doctor degree
  2. A minimum of two years of experience in a law school career services office as an Assistant Director (or an equivalent or higher role)
  3. A minimum of three years of experience in a judicial clerkship, law firm, or other legal work setting (e.g., in-house legal department) as a licensed attorney, or position that otherwise provides experience highly relevant to the duties of the position.
Assistant Director – the following experience and education are required:
  1. Juris Doctor
  2. A minimum of three years of experience in a judicial clerkship or as a licensed attorney at a law firm or other legal work setting (ex. in-house legal department)
