Overview

Princeton University's Office of Communications seeks a dynamic and versatile communications professional to serve as a Communications Strategist. Reporting to the Director of Campus Communications, the communications strategist will support communications intended primarily for students, faculty, and staff. The communications strategist will work collaboratively with units across campus providing support ranging from writing, copy editing, and guidance in communications strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Liaising with Facilities, Office of Sustainability, University Health Services, Office for Undergraduate Students and others to offer strategic communications guidance and produce content.
  • Writing high-quality content tailored to the University’s core website and intranet.
  • Prepare targeted messages and e-newsletters to undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, staff, and researchers via the University list serv system and MailChimp. Newsletters include: Princeton Community COVID Update, Princeton Weekly Bulletin, and Orange Alert.
  • Posting timely and strategic messaging for digital screens across campus. Cultivating relationships with campus partners to ensure a steady stream of content. Determine that requests are in alignment with criteria managed by the Director of Campus Communications.
  • Coordinating messaging for weather-related events and campus emergencies for social media outreach across relevant platforms.
Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree. 5+ years’ experience in communications or related field. Demonstrated leadership in developing and implementing communications strategies. Exceptional oral and written communications skills.
  • Versatility and flexibility is essential, as this position requires the strategist to divide time and attention across multiple units throughout the University. Attention to detail and customer service are key. Ability to prioritize and juggle responsibilities, meet tight deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously. Organized and expert problem-solver.
  • Creativity in setting strategy and curiosity in approaching assignments. Self-motivated with ability to work independently and also as part of multiple teams. Ability to constructively edit others’ work. Proven success in managing projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft desktop applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), web publishing (Drupal), Google docs,and social media platforms.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in a college or university setting.
