The Public Health Graduate Program within the Larner College of Medicine (LCOM), the Public Health Sciences Undergraduate Program within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the University of Vermont Cancer Center at the University of Vermont (UVM) invites applicants for a full-time Epidemiology position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Tenure pathway. The individual recruited into this position will also serve as Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) in the University of Vermont Cancer Center. The candidate is expected to have and maintain extramural research funding and be engaged in active epidemiology research, maintaining at least in part some element of cancer focus. The position expectations also include active engagement in teaching, advising and service. Primary appointment will be within the LCOM in the department most appropriate for the candidate’s training and experience.

The Public Health Program in the Larner College of Medicine supports a Masters Degree program accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. The MPH program epitomizes the alignment between the University of Vermont’s distinctive strengths and the urgent issues facing us locally, nationally, and globally. Its collaborative and cross-disciplinary approaches facilitate an understanding of public health and the environmental and social factors that contribute to health and disease.

The Public Health Sciences Undergraduate Program is a fast-growing major committed to preparing students for careers in health-related fields. The core curriculum integrates social, behavioral and analytic areas of public health and population health sciences. The faculty member in this position will have a unique opportunity to expand the program mission and vision to include research in public health, including mentoring PhD students through the College of Nursing and Health Sciences Interprofessional Ph.D. program. There are abundant opportunities for inter-professional collaborations with the Vermont Department of Health, the UVM Medical Center, UVM Health Network, UVM Larner College of Medicine, and the UVM College of Arts and Sciences.The individual will participate as a member of the Cancer Center senior leadership group and will contribute to all aspects of strategic planning. In this role, the candidate will define the UVM Cancer Center catchment (impact) area, identify cancers of increased or decreased incidence that necessitate focus by the Cancer Center’s research programs, and identify disparities across racial/ethnic/socioeconomic populations and locations (rural-urban) in Vermont and northern New York to promote cancer health equity. The candidate will direct community outreach and engagement activities for the Cancer Center, including chairing the UVMCC Community Advisory Board, and work across the campus to facilitate transdisciplinary research advancements that reduce the burden of cancer for the community.
MPH Faculty: Larner College of MedicineThe successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities that include:· Maintaining an active epidemiology research program with a cancer focus with extramural funding;· Teaching and advising in the graduate Masters in Public Health program;· Collaborating with other departments and faculty and staff within the LCOM in program development, scholarship and service;· Collaborating and engaging in department governance as well as service and outreach activities at the college, university, regional, state, national and international levels.
Public Health Sciences Faculty: College of Nursing and Health SciencesThe successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities that include:· Maintaining an active epidemiology research program with a cancer focus with extramural funding;· Teaching and advising in the undergraduate Public Health Sciences program;· Collaborating with Department of Biomedical and Health Sciences faculty and staff in program development, scholarship and service;· Collaborating and engaging in department governance as well as service and outreach activities at the college, university, regional, state, national and international levels.
Associate Director for Community Outreach & Engagement (AD-COE): UVM Cancer Center· The primary responsibility of UVMCC Associate Directors is to support the Cancer Center in achievement of its goals and objectives, to support new initiatives, to assist the Director in leadership of the Center’s research, clinical, educational and community outreach missions, and to provide specific oversight of tasks within the realm of the identified area of focus.· The successful candidate will direct the Cancer Center efforts focused on community outreach and engagement.
Qualifications:Applicants should have a doctoral degree with expertise in Public Health, Epidemiology or Cancer Control. Applicants must have demonstrated leadership experience in higher education and a vibrant research program with scholarly track record and active funding. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to diversity and social justice, strong mentoring, communication, and collaborative abilities as well as show excellence in teaching.
