Job Title:        Associate Director of Admissions 

Reports To:    Director of Admissions         

Status:            Exempt, Full Time                

 

General Description

The Associate Director of Admissions provides leadership in the overall planning, management, and execution of recruitment strategy for undergraduate, transfer, adult, and graduate students.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assesses candidates’ academic record, motivation, initiative, leadership potential, work/life experience, extracurricular activities, and educational/personal achievement professional as it relates to preparedness for collegiate study. 
  2. Actively participates and works to create partnerships with others on campus by serving on a variety of committees. Enhance the visibility of the Admission Office
  3. Effectively uses the admissions CRM system (Slate) to manage communication with applicants and admitted students at all points through the application and enrollment process
  4. Collaborates with Marketing and Communications to construct departmental/divisional recruitment plans, recruitment materials, acceptance packages and online content, mailings and recruitment campaigns.
  5.  Supervise the undergraduate Admissions Counselors ensuring they are providing support to prospective students throughout the admission cycle.
  6. Oversee the Senior Admissions Counselor to facilitate hiring and training of student ambassador staff. Making sure that a comprehensive training program is developed.
  7. Manage the admissions counselor team, ensuring that planned initiatives, deadlines, and recruitment targets are met. 
  8. Develops a campus visit program to increase the number of prospective student visitors on campus each year. This includes helping the staff to create and be able to deliver presentations that enhance the visit experience.
  9. Works the Director of Admission and the AVP for Enrollment Management to develop a comprehensive recruitment strategy based on best practices.
  10. Effectively utilizes data to create a data driven approach to recruitment and territory management.
  11. Assists with developing and managing the strategic direction for the recruitment of represented and underrepresented populations. 
  12. Counsels’ prospective students and families on admissions requirements, policies and procedures, and topics related to enrollment (prerequisite courses, curriculum, student aid, and career opportunities). 
  13. Work with Admission Counselors to train them on territory management.  
  14. Provides coverage of high school college fairs or visits as needed.
  15. Co-coordinates on campus recruitment events such as Open Houses, Information Sessions and Instant Decisions Days.
  16. Work directly with facilities, security, student services and caterers to ensure all details for admission events are covered
  17. Ensure representation is available at recruitment events by connecting with student support service departments.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Masters degree preferred
  • 4-6 years in admissions or experience in similar settings.
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills. 
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks. 
  • Slate CRM experience and expertise in data management, including student information systems. 
  • Advanced capabilities with Microsoft Word and Excel. 
  • Demonstrated experience working in highly collaborative and culturally diverse environments
  • Ability to develop effective relationships with Departments, Divisions, and with other areas of the College to meet the demands of the position. 
  • Demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills and the ability to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to work select evenings and weekends
  • Valid driver's license

It's less than a mile from the intersection of the New York State Thruway and Interstate 84, and just a few blocks from entrance to the Newburgh side of the Beacon-Newburgh Bridge. The Mount is also easily accessible by plane, with Stewart Airport just minutes from campus. The Mid-Hudson Valley offers a scope of unparalleled natural beauty in a landscape of mountains, river and forest. Hiking, biking, walking, swimming, mountain climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and our park activities offer so many ways to explore the natural environment.

    Enrollment/Student Body Profile. Our student body is made up of 2,700+ students representing over 16 states and several countries. 1,800 are traditional undergraduate students.

    Academic Programs. The Mount offers 50 undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Our collaboration programs offer you a chance to earn a bachelor's degree, plus an advanced degree with schools like Fordham University, Pace University, and New York Medical College. The college also offers master's degrees in education, business, and nursing.

    Faculty. Students learn from our faculty, the majority of whom hold a Ph.D. or the highest terminal degree in their field. Our Student/Faculty Ratio is 17 students:1 faculty member.
