JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration, the Financial Analyst (Financial Analyst 2) serves as a key partner in supporting the fiscal health of the Law School. The Analyst monitors, prepares, and assists in the management of the Law School’s annual budget through establishing and applying budget controls, as well as generating and analyzing financial data for decision-making and planning. In addition, the Analyst will oversee the bursar and business office functions of the Law School and serve as a key strategic partner for the Law School’s programs and services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Provides guidance for assigned departmental financial management activities.Provides budget data for use in developing budget requests; responsible for ensuring the integrity and accuracy of data used.Assists with the annual budget preparation process for the School of Law.Prepares special reports and financial data for use in analyzing policy and budget options and other administrative decision-making, often requiring the manipulation and understanding of various databases.Assists supervisors and decision-makers in planning and evaluation efforts and identifies opportunities for reducing costs and improving performance.Provides all budget managers with data needed to prepare their budget submission. Creates timelines to be sure all data is submitted with sufficient time for compilation and inclusion in the overall budget.Reviews budget submissions to ensure compliance with the directives sent out with the budget requests. Coordinates the submission process and responsibilities with supporting supervisors and managers.Sets up budget tasks based on strategic business goals.Determines impact of various budget options, utilizing large data sets.Reviews budget procedures for efficiency and effectiveness and recommends changes to supervisor.Monitors and tracks the activity for over 150 Law School accounts and makes adjustments as needed.Monitors and tracks Foundation activity through all accounts. Makes recommendations for spending to supervisor and advises units of spendable amounts.Prepares various reports for fund accounting reporting.Responds proactively to financial information requests from the operating units.Assists departments in budget creation and best practices.Creates and/or updates reports for centers and programs including JD and non-JD enrollment, as well as the Dean, Associate, and Assistant Deans.Supervises the bursar, billing, and business office unit.Serves as a resource to students, faculty, and staff on policies and procedures.Develops and maintains effective and appropriate working relationships.Employs a strategic and innovative approach to budgeting and forecasting.Completes relevant sections of accreditation reports including the American Bar Association Annual Questionnaire, US News and World Report Survey, and other surveys as required or requested.Effectively translates financial and analytical concepts to a wide variety of audiences.Works under general direction to analyze available information, draw conclusions and understandings, and present such conclusions effectively to senior management.Works collaboratively with all members of the administration and finance team to accomplish departmental goals.Prepares special projects as requested by the Dean, Associate Deans, and Assistant Deans.Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s degree in a related field.Five years of related experience. Two years serving as an advanced/senior team member or working as a project lead.Experience in budgeting principles and practices.Knowledge of policies and procedures governing the operation of a business department.Expertise in Microsoft Office and related software applications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Advanced degree in a related field.Six to ten years of experience managing and developing institutional budgets.Prior experience in higher education.Prior experience in the creation or implementation of innovative financial budgeting and forecasting.Experience with data management systems and financial software, such as KFS, KDFM, WebFOCUS, and/or Peoplesoft.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time position. Candidates should expect to work at the Law School, located in Hartford, Connecticut. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
