Job Summary:

The School of Education, in the College of Professional Programs at Eastern Washington University is currently inviting applications to fill two Lecturer, Education Field Supervision, special faculty positions to start September 16, 2022.

The Education Program is seeking two colleagues with a strong commitment to students, collegiality, and outside partnerships. The faculty members hired for these positions will be welcomed into an academic community dedicated to cultural diversity, community engagement, and social justice.

The individuals selected for this position will:

  • Evaluate and mentor Education candidates in the field using criteria based on best practices
  • Provide oral and written feedback to Education candidates.
  • Support Education candidates in providing instruction that aligns with state standards and meets students’ needs.
  • Maintain regular and effective communication with colleagues, candidates, administrations, and participating teachers.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in Education as needed.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Participate in regular faculty meetings.
  • Participate in ongoing program approval, accreditation, and assessment efforts.
  • Serve as an ambassador from EWU to school partners.

Faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning. Additionally, the candidate selected for this position may be expected to teach face-to-face classes, hybrid or blended classes and/or online classes according to the needs of the department, if needed.

Candidates are required to use their own transportation to get to and from schools. Washington State mileage reimbursement will apply.

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Education or BA with National Board Certification
  • At least 3 years’ teaching experience in K-12 Education or extensive experience in K-12 education
  • Experience supervising and/or evaluating instructional coaching with adult learners, peers or candidates in the field
  • Experience and/or education which demonstrates knowledge of data driven instruction with positive impact on P-12 student learning
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
  • Candidates must demonstrate interest, experience and/or ability in promoting cultural competency and/or diversity.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff and the public.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • National Board Certification (required if the candidates does not have a Master’s in Education), or Administrative Credentials
  • Professional development in or experience with instructional coaching
  • Experience serving as a faculty member in higher education in a Department of Education
  • Experience mentoring teacher candidates in the Teacher Education Program
  • Interest or experience in teaching college level courses
  • Recent experience in Teacher Education programs
  • Experience teaching using the Canvas instructional platform

  • The initial workload will consist of the following activities, and are subject to revision by the Chair and Dean to meet changing departmental/program needs
  • 15 Credits per Quarter = 45 Total Credits
  • Release Time for Field Supervision Practicum EDUC 423/426/427 (8 observations = 1 credit)
  • Evaluate and mentor Education candidates in the field using criteria based on best practices
  • Provide oral and written feedback to Education candidates.
  • Support Education candidates in providing instruction that aligns with state standards and meets students’ needs.
  • Maintain regular and effective communication with colleagues, candidates, administrations and participating teachers.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in Education as needed.
