PREPARING FUTURE FACULTY - FACULTY DIVERSITY POSTDOCTORAL PROGRAM
OVERVIEW OF PROGRAM
The University of Missouri’s Preparing Future Faculty – Faculty Diversity (PFFFD) Postdoctoral Program is designed to develop scholars for tenure-track faculty positions at the University of Missouri and elsewhere. Applicants should demonstrate how they can contribute to faculty diversity, such as through membership in a group that is historically underrepresented in a particular discipline or through other experience and training. Postdoctoral positions are typically for two years and provide research, teaching, and professional development opportunities. The stipend is a minimum of $60,000 per year plus University benefits and professional development funds. Some disciplines may provide additional salary commensurate with standards in their field of study. To be eligible for this program, applicants must have completed their doctoral degree, or expect to complete their degree no later than July 1, 2023.

College of Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources
• Food, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences – Scholar in food science and engineering, and/or nutrition and exercise physiology with an interest in obesity.
• Natural Resources – Scholar in agroecosystem modeling wildlife, ornithology, climatology, or sport and recreation management.
• Plant Science and Technology – Scholar studying precision plants (genetic engineering of plant metabolic or signaling networks with an impact on for example drug development, human nutrition, gut microbiome, biofuels, climate-resilient crops or precision medicine) and/or data science in agriculture (data driven decision tools for agricultural production systems and precision agriculture).
College of Arts & Science
• Anthropology – Scientific anthropologist with specialization in human-environment dynamics, including human evolution and behavior.
• Art History – Scholar in any art historical field; of particular interest are scholars of print culture, photography, or new media.
• Chemistry – All areas of chemistry but particular emphasis will be placed on medicinal chemistry, radiopharmaceutical chemistry, inorganic/organometallic chemistry or physical chemistry.
• English – A scholar studying gender and/or race and/or critical ethnic studies in Literature, Rhetoric & Composition, and/or Creative Writing.
• Geography/Women’s & Gender Studies – Feminist geographer in health geography with expertise in qualitative GIS and/or health GIS as well as geographies of race and ethnicity.
• Languages, Literatures, and Cultures – Scholar(s) working in Refugee, Migration, or Transcultural Studies. Preference will be given to research with a Maghreb, Chinese, or Russian/Post-Soviet emphasis.
• Mathematics – Scholar in all areas of math and applied math, including algebra/number theory, algebraic geometry, harmonic analysis, differential equations, probability, differential geometry/relativity, differentiable manifolds/differential topology.
• Physics and Astronomy – Scholar in the areas of Biological Physics, Astronomy/Astrophysics, and Condensed Matter Physics.
• Statistics – Scholar in areas of Bayesian Statistics, Data Science/Machine Learning, Spatio-Temporal Statistics, or Biostatistics.
• Textile and Apparel Management – Scholar in all areas of textile and apparel management.
• Women’s & Gender Studies – Feminist scholar working at the intersection of gender, sexuality, race, and feminist environmental studies and/or climate justice. Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to, labor, health, ecological feminisms, environmental ethics, water/land protections, migration, displacement.
College of Education & Human Development
• Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis – Scholar in the areas of educational administration, educational policy studies, or higher education.
• Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology – Scholars in the areas of educational, school, and/or counseling psychology that demonstrate a scholarly interest in prevention science, health disparities, or youth mental health.
• Human Development and Family Science – Scholar should work in one of our four primary research areas: 1) Early Childhood Education, Care and Development; 2) Youth Development and Emerging Adulthood; 3) Interpersonal, Familial & Intimate Relationships; or 4) Diversity and Multiculturalism.
• School of Information science and Learning Technologies – Expertise in the application of the theories of information management or data analysis to learning, research, knowledge access, and community development with a particular interest in candidates who can support one of our focal areas in improving public health, digital humanities, and developing new information management or data analysis strategies to build connections between people and ideas.
• Learning, Teaching, & Curriculum – Scholar in the area of Science Education or STEM Education (K-12).
• Special Education – Scholar in the area of special education with a particular focus secondary education and transition.
College of Engineering
• Biomedical, Biological and Chemical Engineering – Department of Biomedical, Biological and Chemical Engineering – Scholar in areas of biomechanics, biomaterials, neuroengineering, and materials for energy conversion and storage.
• Civil and Environmental Engineering – Scholar in areas of construction, geotechnical, structures, and transportation.
• Electrical Engineering and Computer Science – Scholar in areas of power engineering, electronics, image analysis, machine learning and cyber security.
• Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering – Scholar in areas of human factors, advanced manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare systems.
• Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering – Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering – Scholar in areas of manufacturing, energy, thermal management, and materials engineering.
College of Health Professions
• Public Health – Scholar in any area of Public Health, but with preference for those who work in epidemiology, health policy, health services research, social determinants of health, or health equity, with training in biostatistics.
• Social Work – Focus on advancing social and economic justice through teaching clinical practices and/or engaging in intervention research in substance use/abuse treatment; health disparities; women’s health and reproductive rights; gender-based violence; and/or mental health across the lifespan.
• Occupational Therapy – Scholar studying clinical occupational therapy assessment and/or intervention in pediatrics, preference for autism spectrum disorders.
School of Journalism
• Big Data Journalism and Artificial Intelligence - Scholar studying data analytics/visualization and artificial intelligence with an emphasis in translating information and storytelling.
School of Law
• Scholar in any area of the study of Law.
School of Medicine
• Mechanisms of cardiovascular and metabolic disease.
• Immunology in cellular therapy.
Sinclair School of Nursing
• Scholar whose interests align with the campus’ NextGen Precision Health Initiative; preference for a scholar with an interest in health disparities who complements our strengths in cancer/oncology research, healthcare delivery research, aging/gerontological research, and/or population health research, especially as related to informatics.
College of Veterinary Medicine
• Scholar whose research complements our emphases in veterinary medicine, precision health, and one health/translational science.
• Emphasis areas include but are not limited to the genetic basis of disease, animal models of disease, cardiovascular science, comparative oncology, emerging infectious and zoonotic disease, genetics, immunology, neurology, precision nutrition, and vision science.
