Job Description:

Advising
Advises public health students (campus and online students, and full-time and part-time students) regarding academic courses, professional preparation, and career opportunities. Assists in the recruitment and advising of collaborative/joint degree students.

Other specific tasks include:

  • Updating public health students on program changes, as needed
  • Ensuring student records are maintained and up-to-date
  • Tracking student progress and ensuring all requirements are met for graduation
  • Conducting degree and/or grade audits, as requested
  • Developing and monitoring plans of study for public health students
  • Monitoring student performance and resolving common student issues
  • Working with the MPH Lead Advisor and the MPH Director to resolve uncommon or atypical student issues
  • Advising certificate students

Administration
Primary contact for potential students and applicants seeking admission to the MPH on-campus and online programs and the public health certificate program. Assists prospective students with questions, forms, etc. as needed. Gives input to the implementation of admissions processes.

Serves as the college’s primary point of contact for the SOPHAS application system (a system external to UF), updating the public health program information on SOPHAS at least annually. Tracks applications in SOPHAS.

Initiates and maintains consistent communication with admissions committee members to ensure timely review of applications and decision-making. Maintains detailed records and logs to ensure data can be used for regular reports and to allow for timely notification of applicants.

Maintains systems to track recruitment and application processes, and prepares related reports at the request of the program director. Identifies and reports on trends related to recruitment efforts.

As requested, liaisons with the University’s graduate admissions office to handle petitions.

Recruitment
The incumbent in this position is involved in coordinating multiple aspects of recruitment for the Public Health programs including: maintaining timely and professional contact with applicants, recruiting new external students, collaborating with other MPH staff on public presentations and recruitment efforts, facilitating campus visits for potential new students, and engaging in limited attendance at local, regional, and national events/conferences to promote and represent Public Health programs. Works with other staff to ensure tabling at conferences and other local recruitment events are arranged; and participates in virtual recruitment fairs.

Academic Support
Assists in the organization of program events such as Public Health Open House, Accepted Students Visit Day, and the exhibit at the American Public Health Association) APHA conference. Assists with other college and public health programs events as requested.

Expected Salary:

$46,500 - $52,000 commensurate with education, skills, and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in education, counseling, or an academic field directly related to the advisors area of responsibility; or a bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or an academic field directly related to the advisors area of responsibility and one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Public Health or related field preferred. Advising experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of basic computer systems (e.g., excel, word, and access); UF’s Student Information System. Knowledge of UF policies and procedures related to student advising, registration, and graduation requirements.

Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm. However projects warranting additional effort will be required including coverage of student events and some travel for recruitment.
