Job Details

St. Norbert College a nationally-ranked, private, Catholic, liberal arts college is seeking a part-time Barista for Ed's Coffee Shop in the Mulva Library on campus. Make specialty drinks and craveable eats when classes are in session - summers and academic breaks off! The hourly rate starts at $15.00 per hour.

This position works 15 - 20 hours per week. The schedule is 2 - 3 nights per week Monday through Thursday between the hours of 4:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Specific responsibilities:

Wait on customers and answer questions regarding services and products available in the Coffee Shop. - 25%

Prepare food and beverages including sandwiches, pizza, coffee, smoothies, etc. - 25%

Use point-of-sale cash register. - 25%

Prep food for future purchases. - 10%

Clean, sweep, mop, sanitize, and take out garbage and recycling. - 10%

Rotate and arrange inventory. - 5%

Perform additional duties as assigned and attend College required training. Regular attendance is required. Work in a manner that is aware of personal safety and the safety of others and observes safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices required by the College or governmental authority.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education -

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience and Credentials -

  • 1-3 years of retail food and customer experience.

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse campus environment or commitment to do so as an employee of St. Norbert College.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and customers, particularly in conflict situations.

  • Ability to communicate politely and resolve customer service issues.

  • Ability to multitask, meet specific deadlines, and prioritize tasks and assignments.

  • Skilled in basic math computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

  • Ability to concentrate and focus in a noisy environment.

  • Knowledge of coffee bars and how to make products in such establishments is a plus.  Training provided.

  • Ability to pass a post offer functional capacity test.

Equipment Used:
Point of Sale register, automated espresso machine, coffee brewer, Vitamix blender, turbo oven, cooking utensils.

Working Conditions:
This is a 9 month position from mid-Aug to mid-May. Schedule remains the same throughout the school year.  One mandatory Saturday in the Fall and one mandatory Sunday is required in the school year.

  • Generally a position where you are standing and walking most of the shift. Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs max occasionally with frequent carrying of 10 lbs or less.  Pushing and pulling utility carts with food/equipment/garbage occasionally. Will need to move within the work area with occasional meetings in other buildings on campus.
